“Begonia! Begonia!”
I was being shaken awake. I woke up to see my mother, smiling happily at me.
“It’s time to wake up! Time for you to give that speech!”
Oh no. my stomach churned. Why did I have to give that stupid speech again? Oh, so that elves and fairies can live with one another in ‘peace’. Elves had been oppressing fairies for years, telling their children that we don’t have consciousness, and that we use dark magic to get what we want out of things.
Well personally, I didn’t see the problem with dark magic. After having studied it for years, I only saw it as an alternative to light magic. They are both used to get good fortune, just in different ways. But dark magic was much more powerful.
And dangerous.
“Hurry up and brush your teeth girl. Everyone’s expecting you to be at your best today!”
“I know, I know, I'm coming!”
My sister stood in my doorway, her pretty green eyes looking glazed.
I walked over to her and leaned down.
“What’s wrong?”
“I know you don’t want to say that speech. And I know you hope Mathew will like you back.”
My heart raced. She wasn’t supposed to know about Mathew!
Good thing I can play off my feelings well. “I’m not worried. I’ll get through this.”
And I would. I would say that dumb speech Mom made up for me about badly wanting a world where elves and fairies can live in peace.
I got to the park square, where a stage was being set up where I would have my speech. There wereu already lot’s of elves and fairies alike waiting for me to talk.
Mathew said he would be here to support me. He had actually said that he didn’t like elves either, for the oppression they put on his fellow fairies. But who I saw him with today crushed that statement.
I saw Mathew in the crowd with…an elf!?
I immediately ran to Mathew to confront him about this.
He told me that he wasn’t planning this, but he managed to ‘score an elf girlfriend’. That meant he would have access to all the money, opportunity, and privileges, elves got daily.
“But Mathew!” I reasoned. “We were against them! And even if you have an elf girlfriend, they still won’t treat you like you are a part of their circle.”
“Maybe we’re wrong, Begonia. Maybe they will let us be equal to them,” and with that, Mathew turned to walk back to the girl who was obviously laughing at him.
I guess this was life.Mathew, my secret crush and best friend since we were small children, loved a sickening elf with lots of makeup and a fake personality. And the elves, who try to say they wanted ‘peace’ and ‘equality’ were still busy spitting in small fairies ice cream and saying hurtful stereotypical things about us.
Well, time to end all that.
I went up to the pedestal where my speech was to take place.
“Hey elves… you ready for this!?”
I took out my wand and chanted a spell. A huge white neon ring formed under the elves, and then formed a black whole, sucking them into an abyss.
Fairies flew out of it. I would kill no fairy. Except Mathew… and other elf bootlickers!
“Begonia! What are you doing!?” yelled Mathew.
“Look, she’s using dark magic!” yelled someone else.
“She’s evil!”
“She’s a dark fairy!”
Every, STUPID boot-likcking fiary in the crowd was yelling that I was some type of monster, deserving death. But did I really deserve death when the elves were just going to kill them anyway?
I thought not.
