Officer Floyd Colmes looked out of the patrol car's window. "It looks exactly like I imagined small town USA."
Sasha nodded. "It is. The church is just ahead, are you hungry?"
Floyd reached down and rubbed his ankle and shin. "I'm good, I had enough jerky and donuts on the way here. Let's see what Father Sutherby has to say."
"Hey! I want to stop and get something to eat!" the boy in the back exclaimed.
Floyd looked back at him. "I think you just want to delay your visit with the good Father Sutherby. And maybe have a shot at my other shin while you're at it?"
Don pouted. "I just want a burger and fries. Is that too much to ask for?"
"We can get you one later," Officer Sasha Russels assured him.
"There's the church," announced Floyd.
"I won't go in! You can't make me, I have rights." protested Don.
Sasha got out, and opened the door for him. "Your parents cleared this with us, Don. It's for your own good."
"I won't go in," he growled. For a split second, the boy's eyes flashed red.
Floyd's eyes widened. "God, protect us. I do believe you're right."
The boy sat as far away as possible, poised to kick anyone who would reach for him.
Floyd walked around to the other side of the car, and opened the other door. Don jumped, and scooted to the middle.
In the same instant, the two officers lunged, and a few seconds later, Don was being dragged towards the idyllic little chapel.
He fought mightily, but it was in vain. A full ten minutes later, the two trained police officers carried him over the threshold, screaming and thrashing.
"Bring him on in," a voice invited.
They dragged the boy down the hallway, and in another ten minutes they were at the podium. Sasha was sitting on the bucking child, occasionally being tossed a short distance into the air.
Floyd looked at the painful scene before him. "What next?" he asked.
Father Sutherby sighed. "Now we fight to free this unfortunate child."
