Home Education Curation Collection. 21st May 2022

I'm a bit early this week as Hive account@missdeli leaves for Greece today and I'll be fetching visitors from the airport later who are here for the week. We'll both try to drop in on the community whenever we can this week, but apologies now if we miss your post on the first day.

This week I've been encountering a few things which talk about learning outside of the traditional expectations of the school system. It highlights just how much focus is often on education expectations by age, rather than working with the child to their own strengths and at their own pace. This is something that Hive account@cmplxty discussed this week as he highlighted his son's current strengths and weaknesses. I say current, because we have so many examples of successful people who were considered behind in their education as children. What are your experiences and thoughts on this?



Living in a country which doesn't speak their native language means that Hive account@apanamamama has been trying to find ways to improve her children's outside of the school system. While some time in a local school helped in certain ways, they it didn't cover everything, so that's when the other resources she shares with us came in handy.



This week Hive account@crosheille demonstrated how less can actually end up being more. When her children had their computer game time restricted to weekends only, they got creative and made their own computers and game. This highlighted, for me, how eager children are to learn, create and develop themselves through play.



This week Hive account@eumelysm shares a fun exercise to help with speech development through breathing. I can see friendly competitions developing with this game if there are siblings.



I'll wrap up with Hive account@englishwithnate's video which goes over the meanings and pronunciation of a word each session. I think it's a great way to improve vocabulary use for both young learners and for those learning English as a foreign language. This week the word was absorb.
