Good day I trust you have all been safe and well and keeping up the great home-schooling activities as we have been through COVID. With a massive shortage of teachers and a pandemic still ripping through much of Australia. Our winter period has provided some significant barriers to many across the country.
Little Miss has taken up art like you wouldn't believe and her skills are rapidly growing as has her ability to utilise technology which we have grown to incorporate into our educational endeavours. We had chat the other day around tidy and messy hand writing as little miss was concerned about her hand writing skills.
It is an interesting point many kids raise and it's not something that many should be concerned about and considering most of our written communication is now done through typing, I am not to sure when the last time I read a hand written note was.
Little Miss was concerned though and to be completely honest with her it has nothing to do with her ability but more her physical development as kids fingers and hands are still growing they don't have the bone structure or muscle development to control and guide pens properly yet, in time she will be fine.
To aid in drawing we found a few YouTube art classes where the drawer teaches people how to draw images and you can watch them live. I found this activity to be quite the learning experience because it didn't just involve copying what the person was drawing but also listening to their instructions.
Which Little Miss has been building her skill set for and has been making some really great progress as you can see from the image she has created. She has always had a thing for unicorns and can now spell Unicorn which she uses to search for drawing tutorials on YouTube and once this was completed we went onto another Unicorn drawing.
I was actually quite impressed with this one because not only did she need to listen to the instructions but she had to make sure she met the size and dimensions. We've all been there trying to draw an image and end up running out of room on the paper so having to start again.
Although her colouring in wasn't the best which she informed me I had to buy bigger fatter texters the image came out pretty much exactly as the tutorial provided.
When I was her age I would trace images but she is taking it upon herself to draw them from scratch which is quite impressive. We tried to get little bloke involved in the process but he is still a little too young and decided that he'd chill his eyes on the couch for a while.
Lets be honest here, if we could do what he did we would sooooo be there as well enjoying a little nap. Oh how I miss those mid afternoon naps!
A great activity for a rainy, wintery day in doors.
