Hello friends!
I hope you all are doing well! 🤍
Me on the other hand, I'm not at my best. And in top of that, my child is having an ugly virus and he has high temperature as we speak, above 39°C.
I'll have a very stresful night because I need to watch over him hourly and take care of him, keep his body temperature as low as it can be...you know how it goes with kids and fever.... It's really stressful for me and to be honest, of all things about parenting, these moments are the worst! I get sooo stressed out when this happens and I hate to have a sick child at home.
Fever is a good thing, we all know it's role and how it helps the human body to kill bacteria and viruses but when it gets high...it can be unpredictible, even dangerous. Not to mention that last year we ended up in the hospital for having high temperature. It went high very very fast and my baby boy had convulsions. It was the most frightening thing I've got to live being a parent and for this reason now I'm afraid of fever episodes.
Anyways, now I need to stay awake to monitorize my child's temperature and make sure it decreases. I have plenty of time to share something here with you. And I found a folder in my phone, with a few activities we did last year in December. This is perfect to share it in the community, maybe you can use some of our ideas too. Officially, we're in Winter season and December is mostly about Christmas.
Candy Cane Patterns 🍭
Here's a quick idea for some patterns. You can make a Diy version, but I found one worksheet online that I liked.
Quick mention: my son was one month before turning four when we did all these activities, but they are adjustable for any age.
In general, patterns helps kids making logical connections and develop problem solving skills.
I think this is such a cute Christmas Pattern Worksheet!
Building Blocks Christmas Tree 🎄
Well, this is one of my favorite activities, the one of play and learn, give me some free time type ! 😅 I mean that I can have 10 min for myself while the little one is solving this out.
When Caleb was little, I used to search a lot for ideas that would have give him a good PLAY AND LEARN time and me on the other hand, have a few minutes to do something else.
And plus, it's more like a play activity, with an underground educational layer, if I can say so. Kids need to follow the shape and complete it. They need to focus and do what they're told to do. This mean they'll have to work on their attention and concentration skills, follow instructions and yet, they'll see it as a play time.
I love learning through play activities!
Painting Clay Ornaments 🎁
We have this Clay Ornaments from our cousin. They were very much appreciated 💓 and Caleb have had a wonderful art time with them. In some older posts, I mentioned his joy for painting, so definitely if you can make some of these at home and then paint them, even use glitter or something, they are, with no doubts, perfect for the season!
You make make your own clay at home. Or salt dough.
Counting. Decorate a Christmas Tree. 🎄
This is another cute idea I came with knowing that my son loves to count. He adores numbers.
I thought this to be a cute activity and see how he uses the decorations, let him to be creative arranging all these tiny ornaments.
This is a good idea to practice counting and numeration.
And plus, fine motor skills are at work when grasping all these cute tiny little heart, starts and buttons ornaments.
Geoboard
We have this geoboard game and we used it to create all Winter Figures we could find: starts, chirstmas trees, snowflake, etc.
Geoboard is a great tool for kids to practice basic concepts in plane geometry and play in the same time.
If you don't have a wooden board as ours, you can make yourself a handmade one, using a piece of wood or cardboard and pins or nails. Just be careful and be there when the child is playing with it. You don't want accidents to happen.
You could use earsticks as well and they are more safe to use for kids.
This kind of game combines creativity and learning, kids can follow the patterns or create their own designs.
The rubber bands are colorful and attractive to play with.
Ohhh, and don't forget about playdough. It is so much fun to play with, all kids like it.
They can use your cookie shapes to create cute playdough figures.
Also, we did a Christmas Tree our of colored crayons. So colorful and vibrant! I loved it! I love everything that has vivid colors, lots of them!
I hope you'll find useful these ideas and maybe try at least one with your kid at home. If you have your own ideas and think they'll help other parents here in the community, don't forget to share them with us!
Have a lovely day, everyone!
