Hey guys,
A few month ago I wrote a quick blog about what are those pattern activities and why are they so important in children's cognitive development. Here's the article I wrote, you can take a look if you're feeling to.
Today I come up with these TWO MORE ACTIVITIES for you, that you actually can do at home without needing fancy things and still your kid has a fun learning time. đź’™
Both activities are easy to set up and they're done in no time!
Patterns Activities are that kind of activities that help children develop their number sense and observation skills, helps in visual learning and improves concentration .
Pattern is about seeing connections and making links.
Patterns are things—numbers, shapes, images—that repeat in a logical way. Patterns help children learn to make predictions, to understand what comes next, to make logical connections, and to use reasoning skills.
ICE CREAM PATTERN ACTIVITY
You just need a couple of basic things I'm sure you all need at home:
- colored paper
- white paper
- carioca markers/crayons
- scissors
And if you don't have colored paper, than you can paint or color some.
Also, if you don't have carioca you use crayons or whatever you have at home for coloring. Maybe you can put your children paint it before and that makes this activity more challenging, with more steps.
You can see what I did here, there's no much as instructions. Children need to match the ice cream pattern with the right colors and in the same order.
POM POM AND EGG CARTON ACTIVITY
For this activity you only need a few items:
- egg cardboard/carton/tray
- pom poms
- white paper
- carioca markers/crayons
You'll start creating the pattern by drawing these circles on a white paper. Then make sure you have enough colored pompoms for every circle.
If you dont have pom poms you can use beans (black, red, white), buttons, flowers, anything is suitable if they fit in the egg carton holes.
Children have to focus in order to finish this pattern recognition activity. You show them once what they have to do and then You can stay and observe and help them only if they ask you to. Else, just let them do their thing.
In the end, of course there has to be some numbers involved. He started to create numbers out of pom poms.
My son was 2 yrs old when we did the icecream pattern activity and in the second one, he was 2 and a half.
But you can try these with older children too. You can make them more complex if you want by adding more layers (to the icecream activity) or you can add a 30peaces egg carton to the second one.
Hopefully you'll try it too! I personally believe these activities are just an example of how easy can be to create efficient materials for home learning education.
Thank you for taking your time reading it
