Hello everyone,
This week we got into World's Geography topic and I thought this activity would be perfect for us.
Its not our first time reading, talking or learning about the continents but even so, I considered this activity to be like an introduction of the basics as Earth (land) and Oceans (water). 🌏
And plus, it's a fun, colored, attractive activity for the little ones because involves all these colors.
I already mentioned this in many of my posts, I have this habit of using educational resources when we learn about something, every time we get the chance. I mean, not just talking and do worksheets. BUT well.... I guess this is the normal thing to do, right?
In this case, we had our Earth Globe and a couple of books about Geography explained to kids, the World's Atlas for kids and the third one called Earth Planet. 🌏
The 7 Continents of the World 🌍🌎🌏
The activity is not hard at all, especially for Caleb. It was a lot more fun to put all these tiny pieces of crepe paper in their place, using the legend of colors for every continent. 🌍 🎨
It was a bit addictive even for me. We wanted to see it done. 😄
All I wanted with this activity right here was to repeat The Seven Continents and help Caleb to have a better understanding of the continents and their spatial recognition. And last, but not least, work on cognitive skills like patience, concentration, attention and fine motor skills.
I didn't manage to represent the continents correctly proportionally 😁🙈, but leaving that aside, I had a really pleasant learning time. Caleb enjoyed participating in the activity.
We both prepared the materials. He took out the crayons, I brought the books, we both cut out the crepe paper and at the end, I drew the outline of the globe + continents. 🌏
Caleb decided which color to assign to each continent and together we wrote a color legend. 🌍
We identified them on the globe and in books too. 🌎
So yeah, I always try to have educational benchmarks to assist us in the learning process.
In this way, Caleb learns how to learn, how to inform himself and where he could find the information he is looking for.
I think its pretty obvious what materials we have used: crepe paper and glue are the basics here. But if you dont have crepe paper, you can use whatever you have at home. Or simply ask your kid to color white paper and then cut it into little pieces.
As for books, you can use any Geography book you have, I think they all have the Earth Globe represented somewhere in there.
I found a way, I would say, really attractive, colorful and fun, to once again review the 7 continents.
A little geography does not hurt, starting from the first basic notions such as water and land, so the continents. 🌍
I hope this is useful for you too!
Stay safe and keep learning,
Missdeli 🥰
