Summer is almost here and I’m almost done being homeschooled for 10th grade. This reminds me I have to thank my parents for being such awesome homeschool teachers!
But anyways, throughout my time of being homeschooled, there have been a lot of fun projects and activities I’ve done that I think are so awesome that I’d like to share with other families these ideas so they can have fun too!
So without further hesitation, here are 5 home-school activities that would be super fun to incorporate into your school year (or next school year!)
1.) Let them watch documentaries!
It can be very fun to watch educational documentaries, so why not watch one and learn something in homeschool? I’ve learned so much new stuff, like what gamification is and how people live in the Himalayan mountains, all because of the documentaries my parents would assign me to watch. Then they would have me write about the documentary, and we were able to talk about it and discuss it in class the next day, which was very fun, as I got to talk about what I had learned, and what I thought was good or bad about the documentary. This is so fun and I recommend letting kids watch documentaries in school so they can learn something new, and then have fun discussing it!
2.) Make a day or an hour for exercise!

Everybody’s got to stay fit and healthy, so incorporating gym into home-schooling is a good idea, and it can be very fun too!
When I was younger, my mother had these days called work-out Wednesdays, where me and my brother would turn on the TV, put on a Kidz Bop dance video, and dance to it at home and have to do the same dance moves they did on the tv. This was very entertaining and silly at the same time!
We would practice other types of physical activity as well, such as karate, taekwondo, and yoga.
Needless to say, an hour of exercise is fun and good for the body. If it’s nice out, you can even do an hour of riding bikes, or jogging, or taking a walk around the nearest park or arboretum!
3.) working on your life hobbies!
So let’s say your child wants to be an artist, or a taxi driver. Why not make time for them to learn about and work on their hobbies at school? Make an hour dedicated to your child drawing a portrait of you or something on the internet to practice their art skills, or maybe you let your child look up what taxi drivers usually get paid, or on a ride to the store let them sit in the passenger seat and take notes on how you drive and write and essay on what it takes to be a taxi driver?
Lots of times my mother gave me the free time to work on what I wanted to be, a writer, and what do you know? Soon enough, I published my first ever book, a children's book called Imagination, a story about four kids who can make anything happen with their imaginations!
That book started out as a school project book which I drew by hand, and a few years later, my parents decided I should turn that school project into a real book that other people can read, and boom! They gave me lots of time in school to digitally draw the pages of the book and edit the manuscript so that children can read the book relatively easily! I’m so happy to say that that book, Imagination, is up on Amazon right now and you can find it here!: https://www.amazon.com/Imagination-Shila-Williams-ebook/dp/B09YXKWZJX/ref=sr_1_1?crid=15MR85DQDQCA&keywords=imagination+shila+williams&qid=1651670532&sprefix=imagination+shila%2Caps%2C173&sr=8-1
This just proves that if you let kids work towards what they want to do in life, they can achieve it! I mean, I’m sixteen years old and I’m a published writer! Yes because it is my passion to write and draw, but also because my parents drove me to go further with my dream and gave me the time to turn it into a reality in school!
Thanks for reading and remember students, don’t forget to thank your parents for taking the time to teach you!
