When I was young, street games used to use up all of my time. I actually learned how to soeed clean the house, speed wash the dishes, speed make-the-bed, all of which my mom did not appreciate, because I wanted to start playing outside.
Later on, I learned how to balance and budget my time. I learned how to make a schedule of my activities so I can have enough time for house chores, homework, and street games. My mom finally had enough of my speed everything because apparently, I leave a lot of things undone.
I taught my kid how to play hopscotch. She's only 3 and I don't think she'll get the mechanics of the game just yet, I just wanted to give her some sort of physical activities. We don't have chalk so I had to improvise, I used a broken tile to draw on the pavement. She had a good time, I had a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
I know now how my mom felt when I go home all dirty and muddy from playing outside. But I know she also felt glad I am active and learning how to balance things at an early age.
With all the gizmos and gadgets, I still would want to see children playing together outside the house. I actually taught the children in the neighborhood how to play some traditional children games back when there was no quarantine.
This is one of the things I hope to bring back in our community once the lockdown is lifted. Children playing with ohysical activities and not just sitting down looking at mobile phones and computer screens.
