Homeschooling is a demanding task, but I like to dedicate time to my children so that they can advance in their education. Jesus has Down Syndrome and since he was a little boy we have encouraged him to advance progressively, today he is ten years old and knows how to defend himself in many daily tasks. Sara helps her brother in everything he needs, I feel proud of her, since she has been a complement in the learning process of the child. I am constantly looking for strategies that promote the development of their cognitive abilities, and for this, I have sought the opinion of various specialists.
This time, I decided to use a different strategy for the recognition of some objects. I looked for recycling materials that could be useful. I asked the children to bring me several keys, coins and some toys. I gave Jesus colors to mark the shapes on a cardboard, he did it quite well, taking care of the edges. Once we had all the shapes, I made them darker with the marker, organized all the objects on the side of the table and told him to put each one in the right place. His eyes were very attentive and he was looking for the shapes to place them. I was surprised because he did it very quickly. Then, I changed the position of all the objects and asked him to place them and almost immediately he identified them correctly. With this activity we strengthened her memory, her perception and her understanding of the function and use of certain objects.

Educar en casa es una tarea demandante, pero me gusta dedicar tiempo a mis hijos para que avance en su formación. Jesús tiene Síndrome de Down y desde pequeño lo hemos estimulado para que avanzara progresivamente, hoy tiene diez años y se sabe defender por sí solo en muchas labores cotidianas. Sara ayuda a su hermano en todo lo necesario, me siento orgulloso de ella, ya que ha sido un complemento en el proceso de aprendizaje del niño. De manera constante, busco estrategias que impulsen el desarrollo de sus capacidades cognitivas, para ello, he buscado la opinión de diversos especialistas.
En esta ocasión, decidí usar una estrategia distinta para el reconocimiento de algunos objetos. Busqué materiales de reciclaje que pudieran ser útiles. Le pedí a los niños que me trajeran varias llaves, monedas y algunos juguetes. Le di colores a Jesús para que marcara las figuras en un cartón, lo hizo bastante bien, cuidando los bordes. Una vez que tuvimos todas las formas, las hice más oscuras con el marcador, organicé todos los objetos al lado de la mesa y le indiqué que debía colocar cada uno en el lugar que corresponde. Sus ojos estaban muy atentos y buscaba las figuras para colocarlas. Me sorprendió porque lo realizó muy rápido. Luego, cambié de posición todos los objetos y les pedí que los ubicara y casi de inmediato los identificó correctamente. Con esta actividad fortalecimos su memoria, su percepción y su entendimiento en lo que respecta a la función y uso de ciertos objetos.

Abajo le colocó su nombre porque este detalle serviría de adorno para su habitación. Maneja la tijera con destreza, aunque se cansó de cortar tiras y optó por el método tradicional, lo hizo rasgando con las manos, así apreciaría la textura y podría identificarlo de otros materiales. Ella quiso utilizar colores llamativos, el rojo y el azul fueron sus preferidos. Luego, arrugó las tiras, buscó pega blanca y empezó el proceso para hacerlas compactas. Ella se mostró atenta, coordinó sus habilidades motoras y fue muy organizada. En esta actividad también se reforzó la paciencia y percepción táctil.
Dedicating time to teach the little ones is of vital importance for them to continue progressing, therefore, I try to establish suitable spaces for this purpose. The idea is to perform exercises that arouse interest, so that children are motivated and do them with enthusiasm. This is where their commitment and dedication will be seen. From this point, it is appropriate to explain to them that each activity has a purpose, they will have better skills to write and develop in the academic world.
Dedicar tiempo para enseñar a los pequeños es de vital importancia para que continúen progresando, por ello, procuro establecer espacios idóneos para tal fin. La idea es realizar ejercicios que despierten interés, de modo, que los niños se motiven y los hagan con entusiasmo. Allí se verá su empeño y dedicación. Desde este punto, es apropiado explicarles que cada actividad posee un propósito, tendrán mejores habilidades para escribir y desenvolverse en el mundo académico.
