today I want to share the experience we had this week at home and at school with our daughter Isabella, I had already told you that we had to learn numbers and letters and with the use of the primers we made this learning much easier and a meaningful experience. In our country the children have to take one exam per period in front of the teacher and the other children while everything is normalized, according to what the Ministry of Education tells us. We had to prepare Isa to present her project of learning letters and numbers, this was a new challenge for us.

One of the things that has cost us so much with Isabella and Diego is that they manage to speak and leave a little shyness when they are with other people, this has to do with the confinement in which they have been growing up because of the pandemic and that obviously has generated in them the fear of going out or being in contact with other people even with other children. Well, with this as an obstacle we had as a challenge that Isabella was able to tell her classmates what her learning project was about and what she learned, so she had to speak in public.
Una de las cosas que nos ha costado tanto con Isabella y con Diego es que ellos logren hablar y dejar un poco la timidez cuando están con otras personas, esto nos han dicho tiene que ver con el confinamiento en el que ellos han ido creciendo a causa de la pandemia y que evidentemente ha generado en ellos el temor por salir o estar en contacto con otras personas incluso con otros niños. Bueno, ya con esto como un obstáculo teníamos como reto que Isabella lograra decirle a los compañeros de que se trató su proyecto de aprendizaje y que fue lo que aprendió por tanto debía hablar en público.

The first thing we did was to make her poster that would help her remember what the project was about in the midst of the stress of being with other children, she also had to recognize and identify the numbers and letters on the poster. Once the poster was ready we concentrated on getting her to practice what to say and how to say it in a relaxed and fluent way, that was the most difficult part. We made a little speech that she could practice with us, we would repeat the speech and as we repeated it we would tell her how to stop, we corrected the tone of voice because when we said "speak loudly" she would yell I don't think we were explaining ourselves well until I repeated with her the way she was supposed to say it.

Lo primero que hicimos fue hacer su lámina esa que serviría para que ella lograra recordar en medio del estrés que le genera estar con otros niños de que se trataba el proyecto, además en la lámina ella tenía que reconocer e identificar los números y las letras. Una vez que lámina estuvo lista nos concentramos en hacer que ella practicara lo que debía decir y como decirlo de forma relajada y fluida esa fue la parte más difícil. Hicimos un pequeño discurso que ella pudiera practicar con nosotros, repetíamos el discurso y a medida que lo repetíamos le indicábamos como se tenía que parar, corregimos el tono de la voz porque cuando le decíamos “habla fuerte” ella gritaba creo que no nos explicábamos bien hasta que yo repetía con ella de la forma en la que debía decirlo.
Now we needed her to feel confident and comfortable in front of people, so we had to call on her aunts, uncles and grandparents to explain to her what the project was about, and then we asked some friends who have small children to come to our house to listen to her, then we asked some friends who have small children to please come to our house for a while to listen to her, at first we had to ask her grandparents again to be present at the presentation as familiar people so that she would feel safe, although at first she did not want to and was a little scared by the other children when she saw that her grandparents and us were there, she calmed down and little by little she explained the project to them.
Ahora nos faltaba que se sintiera segura y cómoda delante de las personas en ese aspecto tuvimos que recurrir a sus tíos y sus abuelos para que ella le explicara de que se trataba el proyecto ellos como un grupo que se le hace familiar, luego le pedimos a unos amigos que tienen niños pequeños para que por favor fuesen un rato a nuestra casa a escucharla al principio tuvimos que pedir nuevamente a sus abuelos que estuvieran presentes en la presentación como personas conocidas y que ella se sintiera segura, aunque al principio no quería y se asustó un poco por los otros niños al ver que estaban sus abuelos y nosotros allí se calmó y poco a poco les explico el proyecto.

After that we were almost ready to go to present the project at school but they told us that we could not be present because this was a test to verify the learning that she has had at home, her mom and I were the ones who collapsed because we had doubts that she could do it without having someone with whom she felt comfortable and safe. However, to our amazement and also a lesson that Isa gave us is that when she arrived at the classroom door she grabbed her poster board and told me "I'm coming daddy" she came in and stood confidently in front of the children and the teacher presenting her project satisfactorily and that day she got an A and we learned to trust in her abilities.
Luego de eso ya estábamos casi listos para ir a presentar el proyecto en la escuela pero nos indicaron que nosotros no podíamos estar presente porque este era un examen para verificar el aprendizaje que ella ha tenido en casa hay fuimos su mamá y yo los que entramos en un colapso porque teníamos dudas de que ella pudiera hacerlo sin tener alguien con quien se sintiera cómoda y segura. Sin embargo, para nuestro asombro y además una lección que nos dio Isa es que al llegar a la puerta del salón agarró su lámina y me dijo ya vengo papá entro y se paró confiada delante de los niños y de la maestra presentando su proyecto satisfactoriamente ese día obtuvo una A y nosotros aprendimos a confiar en sus capacidades.
