I've been busy the last few days. Yesterday I put up some shade outside my truck. There are trees around the truck, but none that grow over them. Now that it's been getting over 36 degrees Celsius, we need some shade, so that it's comfortable to be outside. It's just too hot, to be in the truck.
I used some green olive netting, that I found at the bins and sewed some material on one side creating extra shade. The netting makes the shade hold strong on the windy days. Which we can have quite a few of.
My eldest daughter helped. I used stones to fold into the corners, when they where in place, I then wrapped some rope around each one, which was then used to attach to the truck and two trees on the opposite side.
I guess some photos would be nice to show, but I didn't take any, I just didn't think of taking any, I just got on with it. Once that was done, I brought our hob out, cooking inside is a big no, during the summer months in my truck. Plus, it's nice to cook outside. But we eat raw most of the time, mainly fruit and salads and I need extra space inside, to store them.
So moving the hob outside, also solves that.
Anyway, it felt good to get it done. In the middle of the day, it's too hot to be doing anything. But at least we got a good space to chill in. Only had to do something about about the excess mosquitoes. They are out in abundance, due to the rain we experienced a couple of weeks ago along with the big rise in temperature.
So today I made a few sprays. I added some geranium, cypress and citronella oil to water. Which I sprayed on the couch and chairs and which we can use to also spray on ourselves. It can be annoying, getting bit, whilst your eating. So better to be prepared. Plus I get my girls involved, they love, (especially my youngest two), to make their own fragrances and natural oil remedies.
My girls learn mostly by doing, I get them involved in most of the things that I do. Sharing everything, that I have learnt, with them. The things that we need, in order to live. Everything else comes after that.
Surely that is what is most important. Passing life skills, on to our children. Learning alongside them as well. For sure some things they are interested in, others not so much. But either way, they will pick up a lot, being in an environment where we do those things ourselves.
Foraging, food preservation, making your own herbal remedies, growing your own food, these are the things that our kids need to be learning.
