'Education is a right', but even more important than that, should be the right to educate ourselves, in whatever way we choose.
I learnt from quite early on, that there were only certain things that we were being taught in public education. Certain versions and as long as we repeated what we were being told, we would be fine.
The education I received in public school, never focused on teaching me to think for myself. Instead it prepared me for a life, where I would be obedient, where I would blindly follow without asking any questions.
Our education becomes limited, if we just follow what they teach us in schools. If our focus, is only on achieving academic success. It helps to keep us contained. To keep us in line.
But education can't be contained within lines, it stretches off in very different directions and that's how come, it gives us a better overview over life.
Education needs to be free, in every sense of the word. Children, need to be allowed to learn, in which ever form, suits them best. In ways, that really help each one of them to thrive.
They get to discover this, when they are given the opportunity to really explore, the world around them. It seems wrong to then begin to start to shut them off from it. From the natural world.
As they are told that real education, only happens in schools, in universities. Totally disregarding the wonderful wisdom, we all have access to, within.
Closing them off from their full and true potential.

This is my entry, into today's 5 Minute Freewrite, with the prompt being, 'Education is a right'. As a mum whose children are home educated, I am very passionate about the right for children to choose where and how they get to learn.
The way in which we interact with the world is shaped, by the way in which we are allowed to learn. A way in which can help us to grow or leave us a little broken. A little disconnected.
We need to have the freedom to think outside of the box, to extend our knowledge, way beyond what is in the books we are told, to study.
To keep ourselves open, to the lessons of the world, the lessons of nature and those from our follow humans and non human friends.
Following one way, one path, leaves us with a very narrow view.
Unable, to see and explore the wonderful full spectrum of life.
