If you love architectural photography, you will definitely not run out of interesting subjects to shoot here in Singapore. Everywhere I looked there were tall apartment buildings and there were also commercial buildings with creative designs.
Yesterday I visited the Woodlands area located in the northern part of Singapore. Apart from apartment buildings, there are also buildings that are commercial and mixed-use types.
This first set of photos is a typical apartment building in the Woodlands area. The looks of the apartment buildings are somewhat similar which are usually rectangular in shape. But there are differences in color and details on the facade. One of my favorite ways of photographing tall buildings is what they call a "looking-up" photo. It's easy to do because I just have to stand on a corner or side of the building and point the camera looking up.
It's an effective way to create a contrast in the image and of course to have a nice perspective. As you can see, I made dynamic or slanted lines within the frame. The picture looks more exciting because of this angle.
For the next set of photos, I took a picture of Woods Square which is also located in the Woodlands area. On the ground floor of this building, there are commercial stalls while on the upper levels are office spaces.
From the outside, you can see the big difference in design between a typical apartment building and commercial buildings here in Singapore. In apartment buildings, the most used material for the exterior is concrete while for commercial buildings the most used material is glass.
Personally, I really like the designs of the commercial buildings here in Singapore. They don't just settle for a rectangular design. The designers add some interesting features and creative flares when it comes to their creations.
