One piece of feedback has come through loud and clear lately: some of the daily words have been way too obscure on HiveWord.
You were right.
I’m a native English speaker, and even I was looking at a few recent answers thinking, "What on earth is this?" There’s a difference between a word being challenging and a word being so weird that it just feels unfair.
I mean, come on, tajes? lmao. I've never heard of that word before, amongst some of the other strange words you've probably seen if you have been playing.
That is not the kind of difficulty HiveWord is supposed to have.
The goal has always been for the daily word to be recognisable English. Sometimes it should be tricky. Sometimes it should make you stop and think. But it should not feel like you need a medieval dictionary, a Scrabble tournament judge, and a minor in obscure vocabulary just to have a chance.
So I’ve fixed it.
Behind the scenes, I updated the word selection so the answer pool now leans much more heavily toward common, familiar English words. There will still be some tougher ones in the mix, because a little bite is part of the fun, but the truly bizarre outliers have been pushed out of the daily answer pool.
To be clear: valid guesses can still be broader, because that helps keep gameplay flexible. But the actual answer words should feel like real words that normal people actually know.
Thanks to everyone who called this out. That feedback was fair, useful, and honestly overdue. If something feels off in HiveWord, keep saying so. The whole point is to make the game fun, competitive, and satisfying, not annoying in a "well technically it is a word" kind of way.
Future daily words should feel a lot better.
