I've shipped a lot of Hive apps for Hive, mostly fun things and some utility stuff that a minority would enjoy. Regardless, I've just been shipping what feels nonstop (there's something kinda motivating about the low token price). Pretty much everything that I build is low fee and has a burn mechanism built in where Hive/HBD and Hive Engines (where supported) have a percentage burned (usually around 10% or so).
And incase you missed it, my post on DHF funding and accountability kinda blew up: @beggars/show-us-the-receipts-dhf-projects-need-transparent-expense-breakdowns and it made me think, I've been building all of this stuff and taking community feedback on to make it better, but these apps have been mostly driven by what I think would be fun or could benefit Hive.
I haven't asked the question: what do YOU want to see on Hive? Games are fun and I will continue building them, but everyone has an idea of something they would like to see built, so this post is all about soliciting ideas.
But I should probably list all of the apps I've built already before you start throwing out ideas:
- HiveWord — a Wordle clone for Hive with a free daily word and a competitive mode where you can duel someone else with staked Hive and winner takes the pot. I've had a couple of fun games against
(we are currently tied 1:1).
- HivePredict — parimutuel prediction markets for Hive which supports both Hive/HBD and Hive Engine token markets where people can place predictions and bet on an outcome (including auto-resolving markets for crypto and sports, etc).
- HiveLotto — self explanatory, but lotteries on the Hive blockchain. It has an automated house draw, as well as support for custom lotteries for Hive and Hive Engine custom tokens.
- HiveHeist — safe cracking game where you try guessing the combination with tiered payouts for partial matches as well as a carry over jackpot for future vaults
- HiveBounty — micro bounty platform that allows you to create bounties and people fulfill them. Once again, supports Hive and Hive Engine tokens
- Hivett — a platform for reacting to Hive blockchain events. Lets you observe and chain different events and then react to them (call webhook endpoints, etc). It was inspired by IFTTT
- HiveHand — draw 4/Uno powered by Hive
- Hive Ships — free and staked competitive battleship on the blockchain
- HiveSweeper — Minesweeper for Hive, with free and competitive staked Hive play
- HiveDice — simple dice game for Hive
- hive-rs — Rust client for the Hive blockchain (boring, but one for the Rust devs)
- Hivevoice — open source invoicing on the Hive blockchain
- Hive payments for Woocommerce — Woocommerce plugin for handling Hive payments on Wordpress stores using Woocommerce
- Beeline — fully comprehensive graphical terminal UI for Hive, with themes, visual actions for transfers, statistics and more
Whoa. That took a line time to type that all out. My hands are tired.
Anyways, back to the original point of the post. With exception of what I've built here, what is something you think Hive is missing or currently has but you believe the execution is lacking and could be done better? Ideas can include making some of my apps better too. I have taken a lot of community feedback on board while building these apps, so it's a 2 way relationship where I want the community to know this is all for them.
While many of these apps do have fees, they're often tiny little fractional amounts to the point where the payouts my posts are more profitable than the fees from the apps (which I often reinvest participating in said apps anyways, especially Hivepredict where I've got an impressive losing streak on predictions so far). So I'm not looking to get rich or profit off Hive (and lets be honest, nobody is making money here right now). I actually lose money building and running all of these apps and I don't care whatsoever, haha.
The truth is I'm just a high-functioning engineer with ADHD who continually gets excited working on new things and loves where technology is going with all of the AI assisted agents and tooling we have now. So if your idea is exciting, challenging and provides value to Hive, I want to hear it.
I also want to add onto that point that I'm not building just to scratch those ADHD hyperfocus tendencies either. I care about Hive, I've been drawn to this community since Steemit (even with all of the issues regarding manipulation, whale abuse, the eventual hard fork and more). A big part of what is fuelling me right now is trying to come up with ways to create value, to show people Hive is a great blockchain to build on, how easy it is, the benefits of 3 second block times, zero fees, the community.
It has never been a better time to build on Hive. So throw your ideas at me, no matter how silly you think they might be and I'll see what we can do.
