Hey, What’s cookin’, good lookin’?

October 2, 1977, this may seem like a day just like any other in the archives of history. However, the world owes a gratitude of thanks to a small act that transpired on a baseball field... why, well, the High Five was invented.

There are actually two different stories about the invention of the high five. Today will look the more widely accepted version. This particular version is accredited to the Los Angeles Dodger players Glenn Burke & Dusty Baker. More so to Baker.

Burke raised his arm up to do a stretch, and then Baker, in a spark of what some consider the greatest greetings burst of genius since the low five, slapped the outstretched hand of Burke. At that moment...The High Five was born... wow... Baker would later tell ESPN. “So I reached up and hit his hand. It seemed like the thing to do.”

Well played Baker, well played. (*author performs slow clap).

So next time you see a friend stretching an appendage, slap it and perhaps you too will have invented a new greeting that will take the world by storm!
