Yesterday I ran a contest where the goal was to get Hive users competing to bring in views to the ecosystem, driving traffic to a post so that it becomes the #1 post for the day on .
Sadly, while some determined attempts were made, nobody came close to achieving either the top viewed post or the target of at least 1500 views for the day. It was however, just a first attempt, and with a relatively small number of entrants. Let's give it at least one more go, this time with a bigger bounty.
The rules will be the same as yesterday, but the bounty today will be 150 HBD (including a donation from ) as well as the full Hive and HBD rewards for this post. The contest will be running for the full 24 hours tomorrow, Sunday 14th May.
Possible lessons learned?
I think many of those who entered yesterday struggled with both what to share and where to share it. Finding and choosing the right post to promote is probably the meat of the challenge here.
What to Share
- General interest content or content of interest to a particular niche community - many tried to share Hive-centric content which is unlikely to get traction on the wider web. The point is not to push the idea of Hive, but merely to get people to view our sites for the content herein.
- The best post is probably not your post - Of course while we all want to see our own posts get some views, traction and maybe even upvotes, the point of this contest is to bring views to the platform. We have a whole system of curation which intends to highlight and reward the best content on the site, while not all will be suitable for the wider web, the trending, hot and other curation pages are probably a good place to start.
Where to Share
- The networks you already know - Yesterday I suggested sharing on Reddit, but that may be because of my own familiarity with the platform. If you're not familiar with the particular culture of a subreddit, the content you try to promote there might not be able to gain any traction at all. It's also possible that posting in inappropriate places will damage the reputation of Hive as a place that creates spam. So instead, think about the social networks and sites that you know (particularly forums with high traffic), think about the content that you find on Hive, and find the best matches. If you have forums for your own country, you may know exactly what content on Hive they are likely to be interested in. When I promoted the posts by
, it worked because I am familiar with the English-speaking Ukrainian subreddits, and I recognized that the content would be popular there.
Read the Rules
- The post doesn't have to be yours, but it does have to be current (within the last 72 hours).
- You must register the posts you are attempting to push by replying to this post with a comment, linking the post you are entering*. You must do this before promoting the post, that way I can be sure you are not hi-jacking someone else's attempt to promote a post. Make sure you link to a front end like peakd.com that tracks views.
- The post must achieve at least 1500 views within the day counting from after you registered the attempt, and be the number 1 top viewed post for the day of 14th May 2023.
- The traffic must be authentic - you must not pay for traffic or use bots or any similar service to generate inauthentic traffic.
- Provide evidence such as links to your sharing on other social media sites to prove that you were the one who drove the traffic to the post. Evidence of the authenticity of the traffic will be required.
- You can make as many attempts as you like, within reason, as long as you register the posts you are promoting.
- I reserve the right to deny the bounty if the above rules are not followed in letter and in spirit.
I will attempt to screenshot the view counter as close as possible to the time you register your post. If you create a screenshot yourself, that can help.
You can find the page for peakd most viewed posts here.
