Is Hive the Real Deal??

I was on Steem in 2018 and it was sad to watch it die. But it's dead, right? And Hive is alive. Or so it seems.

I still need to be convinced that the issues Steem had won't just happen again on Hive. Anyone have a summary of the changes of the past few years? What makes Hive different than 2017-18 Steem?
