Hope that something like this never ever happens to you. However, if it does, feel free to use my article to guide you on what to do in that event.
Recently I nearly lost my mind. Some software program from Dell computers kept displaying an icon on my computer screen that asked me if I wanted to download whatever it was. I haven't really read it through and through. I merely click on where it reads for it to tell me later, and then it goes away. Well, this time something must have went wrong, because then this Dell software program began to download onto my computer.
I didn't want something downloading onto my computer, if I didn't know exactly what it was. Therefore, I quickly shut off my entire computer in hopes that it would stop the unwanted download process of this Dell program, whatever it was.
After I turned my computer back on, the download process for the unknown Dell software program didn't appear to be in progress any longer. I checked my task manager, and I did see something there that belonged to Dell and it was running. I quickly stopped it from running and removed it. I thought that my problem was solved, but my troubles were far from over.
I tried to get into my PEAKD channel, but I kept getting error readings instead. I knew right then and there that something still wasn't right.
I checked my Chrome extensions to see if my Hive Keychain was okay. Then lo and behold, I saw that Google Chrome had shut it off because of some kind of corruption. My heartbeat began to rush so quickly that it felt as though my heart were going to fall out of my belly. Was this going to be the last time I ever got into my PEAKD account? This had to be worse than what someone goes through whenever they accidentally drop their smart phone onto the ground and it gets damaged.
Next thing I knew was that at least five other Chrome extensions were showing the same warning message as the one for my Hive Keychain was. This was a nightmare beginning to unfold. I clicked the "Repair" icon on each Chrome extension that had this problem, but it didn't do any good. It would not respond.
I, therefore, resorted to the only thing that I knew might be able to undo this debacle. I went to the action center of my computer and performed a system restore to put all my computer settings back to what they were earlier this month. It got rid of the problem with the other Chrome extensions, but it did nothing for my Hive Keychain. I was still getting the same mindboggling message.
Afterwards, my mind became a little bit of a blur. I was really scared that my last eight years on the Hive platform was about to go out the window for good, if it hadn't already done so. I consulted with artificial intelligence ("AI") on Google search and followed the directions there.
First, I had to clear out all my cookies, cache, and the likes. I also had to delete my browsing history. Then I proceeded to remove the Hive Keychain extension and reinstall it. I had never been confronted with anything like this, but I knew that I could not give up until everything was back to normal.
After I reinstalled the Hive Keychain, I recall that there were a series of steps I had to undertake to import all my keys. It had been a long time since I had used my master key for anything, but here I was using it again. Luckily, I had this information close by, so I didn't have to go on any wild goose chases to find it.
After I went through all the remaining procedures and reentered the same password that I had programmed for the Hive Keychain a few days earlier, everything fell back into place and I was able to get in and out of my PEAKD account with no problem.
Now I have to do a shout-out to one of my colleagues here on the Hive writing platform who goes by the user name of "antisocialist." He has recommended that I execute the procedures for an account recovery so that I'll have something to fall back on if something like what I described above ever happens to me again on a wider scale. I'll be asking him a lot of questions over the course of the next week, but I will be taking his advice one way or the other.
Let's hope that nothing like this ever happens to you at all or ever happens to me a second time. It's horrifying events like these that constantly remind you of how short life can be.
If you've ever had an Earthshattering incident of this nature, feel free to let me know about it in the comments section below. Even if you merely have a question about how I recovered my Hive Keychain, then ask me.
Join me in my mission. I'm your Space Captain reporting to you. 😃
