I mean, haven't we already gotten rid of all PoW(aka. mining) validations for block generation?

I might be a little ignorant regarding the necessity to keep Equihash here, so forgive-me if I might have said something foolish here. It's just a doubt that crossed my mind while doing some experiments of my own with the code.
