Hello! My name is Javier Calduch, I live in Andalucía, in the south of Spain, although I was born in Valencia, on the Mediterranean coast. My studies were as a draftsman, a job I carried out for a year and a half, but the stress was with me and I had to abandon it. When I was a teenager I discovered jazz by chance. While I was on vacation, somebody left the radio unattended and when I heard the sound coming out of it I was so fascinated that I decided to learn more about this music. Since then I started buying records, getting to gather a modest collection, and even did a radio program about jazz on a clandestine anarchist radio station for a year.
Then I was a Buddhist in the Tibetan tradition for 23 years, belonging first to an organization for four years and the rest to a different one, where I performed tasks of proofreading books translated from English to Spanish and graphic design. I lived in Buddhist centers in England and was a monk for four years. There I met my ex-wife, who curiously was also Spanish. Then I left the robes, we returned to Spain and spent nine years together, during which I continued to work with the Buddhist organization online. Then we got divorced, things that happen in life, and the person I worked with proposed me to go to a Buddhist center that is on the outskirts of the town where I live now. I was there four and a half years, but my relationship with the director was not good, so I finally had to leave and now I live alone, I have rediscovered jazz and I am happier than ever.
When my brother told me to publish posts on an online social community I didn’t think I could do it, but I got down to work and now I’m enjoying doing it a lot. My favorite musicians are American alto sax Charlie Parker, one of the fathers of modern jazz, Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara and American guitarist Pat Metheny. Here’s the latest version I’ve found of a popular Metheny theme he’s been playing almost since the beginning of his career entitled “Are You Going With Me?”. I hope you like it and find my blog interesting. Greetings 😊
