Hive got my attention, when recognized people organizing a new system due a takeover of an old one. Perhaps this time the main goal is not some get rich quick-scheme, and have been pleasantly surprised.
Daily there are talks about the exchange rate going down, which is kind of a protection against the greedy “investors”. I tend to look beyond the price, and look at the resources and potentials.
Sure nothing is perfect and had some issues with a certain video service deleting all my videos for pointing out security flaws. Not really a problem in the digisystem itself, just some human emotions combined with cultural norms.
I used to run Timebanks back in the day, where a person helps a neighbour for an hour, he gets an hour token and the receiver gets a minus token. So the means of “exchange” is created by marking it up in the system.
That gets rid of issues, like interest and debt, and having a large resource database can result in close to self-sufficient communities. In Finland the taxmen decided to become the mafia asking for Euros from a system, which does not use them.
In Spain the local governments have taken over them too, there used to be so many before, organized by local people. I don't consider the self-proclaimed rulers to be actual humans, more like meat robots with no information processing skills (text to speech).
It has been developing really fast, with new dapps and even the core has got some updates. The dream has been developing an interface, where there are images instead of numbers and currency signs. Kind of waiting for the Engine to have more versatility for NFT type solutions, like virtual runes and such.
I used to make websites back in the day, but the adventure bug bit and started backpacking around Europe for a decade or so. The tools and possibilities have developed so much, so perhaps there is a place for a spiritual community based on giving and the golden rule.
Problem with a money-driven solution is, that it is as fragile as the users, and most likely will be taken over by the greediest people(Steem). If there is no price tag or perceived value, the robbers leave it be.
During the first year of Bitcoin, a similar idea was running through the head, p2p currency where everyone was a miner and it would work as an UBI inside the system. Then the circuit board developers came and kind of made it fail as a community currency and became more of a rig-run stock.
I have almost forgotten the monetary things, when looking at solutions. Resources are the key, both intellectual and physical, not to forget the spiritual. Many people do things because it feels good, not because one gets numbers appear on a screen. For example, how many mothers ask for service payment from their toddlers, changing the diaper?
