Red Dead (Un)Redemption - Are you keeping your witness votes up to date?

Hey folks,

I was doing my usual status checks on my own co-witness @PolleNation and checking on the health of the witnesses I personally vote for as well as vote for on behalf of the other Hivians who trust me to be their voting proxy. It prompted me to make this very necessary post about housekeeping in the Hive.

I think it's very important to remind everyone of the importance of periodically double checking your own witness vote choices, to make sure they still reflect your intentions, are still performing to your expectations and are in fact, still even operational.

Some important notes follow the table about what you should consider regarding dead witnesses.

• It's important to keep your witness votes current for the best chain governance.

• If you are named on this list, I encourage you to post a reminder to your voters that your witness is no longer operational.

• If you are actively voting, you should check your choices to see if you are voting for dead witnesses.

• If you intend to reestablish your witness, nothing need be done, however most of these have been down for literal years, and only a few are very recently disabled, so it seems likely most are not returning to operation.

• Dead witnesses that contain active voters will never be removed from this list. I understand that some of these voters are just as long-gone as the witnesses and those should eventually expire from lack of voting activity.

• In the absence of a user voting for one year, their votes do eventually expire. Take note however, that making updated votes on some of your witnesses or proposals and taking part in governance resets that clock, which means active voters may never expire from dead witness selections included in their current choices, unless they manually also remove these votes from these dead witnesses.

• Please check that all of your votes are in fact directed toward operational witnesses and not being wasted, for your own benefit and that of optimal witness block distribution scheduling performance.

• If you proxy your vote to another user, please encourage them to periodically do housekeeping on their vote selections on your behalf. It's always better to make your own selections than to proxy, but I do understand that not everyone wishes to manage these votes and chooses a proxy to make their selections for them.

• Actively managing your witness selections leads to better governance, better chain performance and a better Hive for everyone.

Post-posting Update:
I have just discovered that if you put your user name into the box on the top of this page, it will segregate out and highlight the dead witnesses you have votes applied on and place them at the top of the list with a warning message, allowing you to double check your list for dead witnesses quickly and easily at any time, as well as being able to login and make revised voting selections or even first time voting selections right on the page.
