The News
Happy Friday! There are only a couple more of those this year and as things get busy I may not be able to do these posts over the festive season. I do get some nice comments saying people appreciate the updates, but I do this partly for my own interest. I am burning some of the rewards this time as well as distributing some via .
$HIVE is hanging on just above 10c, but I think the legacy chain coin is likely to fall further. When I looked recently their site was down and I think they only have one front end. Not that I really care too much about it.
The Hive ecosystem is generally healthy with lots of options for accessing it. We also have a good range of games. I only play these days, but I know others are more into gaming.
We have had a chat function in Peakd for some time, but it may be under-used. I use the mobile app and noticed that it also does chat now. It works pretty well and it is useful as an alternative to using Discord. From what I can see it does not use the same channel as Peakd so it relies on people using the same app. I believe the chat makes use of our keys for encryption, but messages are not stored on the blockchain. Please let me know if I have that wrong.
I also use the app and it looks like
will be implementing the Ecency chat too. To progress on the Google Store they need testers to run the app.
Meanwhile in Meatspace
I went to Krakow in Poland a few years back for our Fest. Since then a great community has formed there around a venue called The Kingdom as posted by . The community has its own account as
. We need more like this around the world. People could have regular meetings at a bar or cafe. If there are enough then the venue could be persuaded to accept $HBD.
Friday Follows
- I posted about the Tokenize:LDN event last week, but
has done a more comprehensive post. She did a great job speaking about Hive and made some good connections.
and
also posted about it.
- Talking of Rising Star,
posted about the special Christmas cards and missions. There are other seasonal missions through the year to keep it interesting. Some of us like to get all the unique cards. Also check out his music under the name Billy Korg.
- I literally just heard about Hash Score from
that is a game which can use Rising Star tokens. I do not know too much about the game, so check the posts.
- I have not ridden a skateboard in a long time, but
has an active community with their own site. Now you can use their iOS app.
The Dog House
I have heard lately of some people gaining hundreds of new followers. That might seem like a good thing, but not if they are accounts being created to scam Hive. I have not had that yet, but I do see some in Snaps posting generic text and not engaging. The rewards may be small per account, but it may add up. These accounts may be created via InLeo that can do it for free. That does require a Twtr/X account or a phone number, so that ought to limit what people can do, but perhaps there are ways around that. I do not know how people are mass-creating accounts.
A Hive account has potential value, so ought to have a cost. If you have enough HP then you can claim Account Creation Tokens that let you generate accounts for others and I have done this. The projects may be doing the same. Some methods require a payment that can be in cryptocurrency.
Part of the value of a Hive account is in the unique name. I know that many have been created with the names of celebrities and brands as there is nothing to stop that. There needs to be some sort of cost to creating an account to prevent abuse so we have to find some sort of balance to make real growth possible.
The End
It has been quite a year for Hive, but it still has not gone mainstream. There can be many reasons for that, but it is still fun for many of us. I am sure others are disillusioned with corporate social media that is full of ads and junk so people need to know that there is an alternative. Each of us can play a part in that.
