The News
As usual I will start with the price chart that I generate with data from . It is not looking so good, but then Bitcoin is back under $90k, so the markets will be cautious. People need to understand that Hive is different to most blockchains. It is not a 'memecoin' or some chain with no real use. Thousands of people use it daily. We have lots of developers using it as a free data storage system. Whatever data you put on the chain is there forever and accessible to all. That opens up interesting possibilities for projects.
I am not too sure what is happening with $HBD right now. The price has dropped off the 'peg' and there is hardly any volume. Has it been dropped by an exchange?

I like it when people use Hive in interesting ways. is a prime example as it uses the beneficiaries system to allow you to share post rewards with those who comment. I used to set specific beneficiaries who I mentioned in these posts, but that is an easier way to do it. It seems that not so many people are using this option, so the
crew have created Tapintu that lets you see who will share their rewards if you leave good comments. I am using it on this post.
Although I use on my PC I tend to use
on my phone as it works so well. There is another update that gives more options for tips. They integrate chat too.
I saw talking about Okinoko that is implementing games on Hive via smart contracts. I do not fully understand this, but it looks cool.
From talking to I learned about the SlothBuzz site that gives a different front end to Hive grouping posts by various categories. This could be a cool way to discover content you enjoy. They have various other projects going on.
Friday Follows
do cool car reviews and their latest post reviews some boots! They are looking to organise a Hive meetup. That will be about as far from me as it is possible to get in England, so I cannot promise to get there, but it could suit folk in the north and Scotland.
- I and others have been sharing how our solar panels do.
gives a different perspective as his system is pretty old, but still working well.
- Hive is coming up to ten years old. Meanwhile
is slightly older at twelve and is celebrating.
is a prolific musician and is now catering for the canine market to support their animal charity.
- My friend
is doing some great recordings of his songs and came back to Hive to share them.
The Dog House
I have been skirting around mentioning the spam issues on Hive. The fact is that we cannot stop someone from posting as long as they have enough 'mana' (based on their HP). The primary defence mechanism of Hive is to downvote the account so that the comments are hidden by default. I am not involved with that for various reasons, but others will use their power that way and it has nothing to do with me (despite what some might say). I would not expect big accounts to do what I say anyway as Hivers are notoriously independent. What is clear is that mass commenting the same things does not win you any support. I am deliberately not mentioning any names as I do not want people acting on my behalf. If someone is already blaming me then I definitely do not want things to get worse. I do not need that sort of stress.
I think in the long term that Hive will need other defences if it grows and becomes a more attractive target for spam. As I understand it the 'cost' of posting could rise so that it becomes less viable. This should not affect normal users who are just being social. We already have the option to mute people and perhaps we could be able to subscribe to lists of known spammers so that they are not visible to us. That would also apply to some of the scams we have seen trying to steal accounts.
The End
I am on Hive to be social and to help build a social platform that can benefit people all over the world. I have been involved in anti-abuse years ago, but I had to step back from that. This is why I focus on things like these posts and my project. I will emphasise the positive aspects, but still talk about some of the negative aspects to maintain perspective.
Enjoy your weekend and Hive five!
