The News
As usual I have been keeping an eye on the $HIVE price. It is trending upwards in the long term, but you just never know what will happen with crypto. There may be some extra on the market as people pay for their trips.
I also watch the charts from , mostly to see if we are gaining active users. The number of minnows is rising steadily. My
project will keep supporting people who are not quite there.

The numbers above are not including those who just play . I had a discussion with
in the comments of this post by
. My point is that the game site does not really make players aware that their Hive account allows them to do other things, such as blogging. So people are missing out on earning from that. I get that some people have issues with big accounts downvoting, but if thousands more accounts started blogging then they could not hit them all. Of course that could cause other issues, but Hive needs to scale up. The Splinterlands site mentions Splintertalk, but that is tucked away. The game news is posted there and I would think people would want to follow that. It just seems a missed opportunity to me. Players could be earning more (which is why most will be playing) and Hive in general would benefit and people will have interests other than games.
There are around two million 'inactive' Hive accounts. If even a tenth of those were being social it would make a big difference. I do realise that many were created as bots or for possible exploitation of the platform, but a lot will will gamers or just those who gave up on Hive.
Friday Follows
- This week I found Hive Discover by witness
. It can give you suggestions of people and posts you could be interested in.
is publicising Hive events for the Spanish community. We need such services to see what is happening. Meeting Hivers in person can be very productive.
watches for people leaking their private keys, but also alerts of other breaches. It seems someone has compromised a lot of accounts and is taking their funds. Ensure your keys are safe and if you still have St--mit as your recovery account then change it to someone you trust.
- My friend
has been posting again. He does love cars, but takes cool photos, cooking and playing with technology.
The Doghouse
Someone I follow re-tweeted this and I know they feel that downvotes are a problem. Of course it can hurt to 'lose' that much rewards, but I checked the post in question and this was just cancelling out the vote of another big account that had been supporting all their posts. The post was not zeroed and the author is making good money generally, whilst hardly commenting or voting. I like to see people giving as much as they take.

So there was a reason for the downvote in that it slightly reduces what one person makes for the general benefit of spreading rewards. I do not think this was a personal attack on the author. The big accounts do have a responsibility for the distribution of rewards that many of us would not want to take on. There are feuds going on between some of them and people may get caught in the crossfire, but if you are still earning then I do not think you can complain too much. I have seen others flee to other platforms over similar events after complaining a lot and attacking various people.
Most of us could not earn much elsewhere online and Hive gives us opportunities. The fact is that people can be awkward and may disagree over various things, but that is down to individuals and is not the fault of the platform. Downvotes are necessary to control actual exploitation, but can be used maliciously too. We do not really want arbitrary rules on what we are able to do here.
The End
I posted previously about being ready for Hivefest. Who else is going? It will be worth it if you can get there.
Have a great weekend and happy #FollowFriday.
