I know I know it seems cliche but hear (read) me out! I've been thinking about motivation more and more lately, not just because as an entrepreneur (we'll cover that aspect too) going through challenging times, I need it...
But also because I started training the u12 boys basketball team (together with my cousin). It's forced me to look at myself and ask what kind of coach/trainer I want to be. As someone who started playing basketball at 11, I know the impact coaches can have on not only your sport career but on your life in general.
I've had the pleasure of being coached by one of the best ever in Suriname, a man by the name of Rudi Nijman. He has since passed away but I will never ever forget the confidence and life lessons that man instilled in me. I'll be forever grateful!
This is not a shot of them (for privacy reasons) but it was today's pick up game.
Now being in a similar position, training kids in a very crucial age.. I decided that that is the kind of coach I want to be. A coach who gives you life lesson beyond basketball, a coach that is able to motivate you to get the best out of you!
Which brings me to the topic at hand...
Motivation! How do you motivate kids? I've realized quickly that every kid responds differently, some respond to you explaining it quietly on the side... Some respond to pressure and rise to the occasion... Some don't, some crumble under pressure and can't do simple things they've been doing all this time just because you put the spotlight on them.
Others are just lazy and need you to push them, or better yet need you to challenge them. Now I'm still learning so I haven't totally figured it out yet but I'm getting there. I'm getting to know these kids and finding out what "buttons to push".
If you can relate or are in the same position, feel free to connect. Let's talk about motivation!
Thank you for reading!
Gyanno!
P.S.
If you read my previous post you know I'm working on finding a schedule/system for my #HiveBloPoMo posts (and beyond).
I've now settled into
Monday :#MotivationMonday
Tuesday: #TuesdayThoughts
Wednesday is open
Thursday: #TravelThursday (which kinda goes hand in hand with #throwbackthursday cause traveling is not that simple now). I've been lucky enough to travel a lot so I'll be highlighting a place I've every Thursday.
Friday: #FoodFriday
Saturday is open
Sunday: #KeepExploring!
I'm excited for this one cause I'll be exploring Curacao and posting about some of the spots I've been too..
I love photography so I'll make sure to apply it to the topics where I can.
