Anyone had an inkling of a memory owning this modem?
(If you could recognise this—or a similar speed, then we probably could guess which "era" you were from đŸ˜‚)
This, was the very modem that changed her life, the very tiny gadget that linked to her study computer in the living room, connecting her to the outside world, digitally, for the very first time.
Even if it was barely any graphics, with just flat 256 colour interface, this was where, through the keyboard, 2 souls were connected.
Perhaps those who are born after the "Y2K bug" would not have felt it much yet, but it was the same when the Nokia could connect to its data and the "Internet" became widely active in Malaysia.
It was the year 1998, with the screeching sounds of this tiny lit modem, let her to a flat screen room, where any posibilities could happen.
It was none other than the Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
It may looked like just flat wordings of chatrooms, and general usernames on the right, but it was where a miraculous connection sparked at a "hi. a/s/" command... that lasted 28 years was formed.
Even with life's ups and downs, and several "disconnections" occured, the connection wasn't just maintained by 2 souls in 2 separate continents.
It was sustained by the 3rd cord—The Invisible Divine Architect, Who created this very cosmos, once turned water into wine, once walked on stormy seas—and till this very day, even with a now 300MBps speed, kept the connection alive.
Funny it is just like #HIVE, the blockchain that is maintained across all the network servers to keep this amazing platform alive for everyone to connect with their own creative content, formed friendships that could last for decades to come, regardless of the distance.
Just like that 2 souls, connected 28 years ago in the once famous mIRC.
(It was the most hyped place, just like friendster in 2002 or Facebook in 2004.
Did you own this very tiny gadget or been to this public channel before?
