Leonardo Spanguero born in Ribeirão Preto (SP), Spanguero is a true icon of Brazilian skateboarding. At 37 years old, with 25 years on the board and 10 years as a professional, he’s sponsored by Drama, Thisway, Improve, and GLK.
When asked about the global skateboard scene, Spanguero started his reply with humor:
"I think it’s the biggest joke on TV."
But then, he shared a more thoughtful perspective:
"In my view, the skateboarding market is evolving, and policies in Brazil are making it more accessible, with skateparks popping up everywhere. However, I see skaters getting lost in this wave. The immediacy of our times has created anxious skaters with little engagement and no sense of skateboarding’s history or roots."
With this awareness, he’s been focusing on building a strong foundation in skateboarding, helping to shape and develop a new generation of skaters with more respect for the sport's history and origins.
On filming day, under the bright sun at the iconic Praça XV, Spanguero demonstrated why he’s a legend. With a mix of technical, heavy, and subtle skating, he conquered every obstacle in the plaza, delivering lines that embody the authenticity of street skateboarding.
I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I enjoyed filming them, and that you share the links with other skate lovers!
