Most people building on Hive think DHF funding is the threshold. Like once you get it, you can finally start building the thing you've been planning. Here's the reality: you almost certainly don't need it, and waiting for it is just slowing you down.
The costs are basically zero.
The stake you need to cover resource credits is trivial. The chain is feeless. A VPS to host your app costs a few dollars a month. That's it. There's no expensive infrastructure to spin up, no per-transaction fees eating into your margins, no platform taking a cut.
The financial barrier to building on Hive is so low that asking for funding before you've started is hard to justify. To yourself, let alone to the community.
AI has changed what one person can ship.
This is the part that changes the whole conversation. A solo developer with something like Claude Code can now build in days what used to take a team weeks or months. The gap between idea and working product has genuinely never been smaller.
What used to require a team, a budget, and a runway now requires you, a laptop, and a cheap VPS. The excuse of "I just need some funding to get it off the ground" doesn't hold up the way it used to.
Start it. Seriously.
If you believe in the idea, the cost of proving that is almost nothing. Build the thing. Get it in front of people. Show that it works and that people actually want it. If you can prove your app is valuable, that people like it, you'll already have justification for a proposal.
That's the move. Not a proposal. Not a roadmap. Working software that exists.
A DHF proposal that comes with numbers that prove its worth is far more compelling to many than a proposal that makes promises based on an idea of what they think people in the community will find useful. It's not 2021 anymore, you can't just slap together a roadmap and a quickly written white paper and get millions.
The DHF makes sense for builders who've already proven themselves and need resources to scale something that's already working. It's not seed funding for ideas, and you don't need it to be. Hive is one of the few ecosystems where you can genuinely go from idea to shipped product on next to nothing.
Take advantage of that instead of waiting for permission.
