It was raining nicely when I woke up and I didn’t want to get up, just lie there and listen to the rain. But my leg said otherwise, so I dragged it out of bed. Once my post was up, I decided to finally get the seedling re-starts done. Some had come up, a couple pumpkins, some watermelons, and a paprika.
I had to discard a whole tray as I had no more seed to re-start with. So we will see what happens with these.

Then I sat for a short while and got ready to go do errands. I had to call the hospital to make sure the lab orders had gotten there. They had not. So I spent the next half hour on hold and got nowhere. So I gave up and we left.
We had to take the truck down to be inspected, something I wasn’t looking forward to, with the rain and the brakes in bad shape. We got it dropped off late and headed to the dry cleaners. It was well after 9AM, opening time and again, for the 3rd time, no one was there during business hours. So we left.
We headed to the hospital to deal with getting the labs done. The orders had made it and they drew 8 tubes. I hope I was a pound lighter when I went out…
We went back to the dry cleaners and they were finally open and I rescued my coat. I also told them how displeased I was to make 4 trips and that I would not be back.
Next we did some shopping and decided to cross over into “Africa” on the other side of the river to shop for garden pants. Mine started to give up the ghost on Wednesday. I found 2 pairs at the thrift shop.
Things were looking up!

Next we headed back to get the truck. A miracle happened! It had passed, with non-working backup lights and no emergency brake! I’ll still have to fix the brakes, but there’s not a deadline hanging over me now.
We brought the truck straight home as I was getting very tired and didn’t want a mishap. Then we headed out to do more shopping.
Front pasture hay, and no one to cut it…sigh
We got back around 1PM and got stuff put away. My general helper had to go south to her real college graduation and didn’t want to go all the way home to get ready. So I told her to get cleaned up here, as she had clean clothes in the car.
I sat down in my chair to rest and the next thing I knew she was looking for the storage bucket so she could take the spirals off the little trees. It had stopped raining the hour before and was getting nice outside.
So that job is finally done.
I still have to prune off the winter kill on them all and do some weeding.
She got cleaned up and headed out to her graduation, and I headed to the kitchen to clean it up before going to bed for a nap. My brother got home then and he had decided to grade the driveway while it was still just a little wet.
So he headed out on the tractor while I headed to bed.
Looking west
He did a really nice job, it’s nice and flat again.
Looking east
Going to the barn was more of a mess and he did the best he could with it. It was not done as well as the other half, when we did the big job on it in 2019.
When I got up at 4:30PM I found someone very comfy on the blanket in his chair.
When I went up at 7PM for chores, the storm clouds were moving out.
To the east they had interesting patterns.
My general helper will be back at 8AM on Friday. I hope to get out to the garden by 6AM but it’s to drop into the 40’s tonight. I’ve got the cold frame closed up and I hope everything will be okay. That will teach me to not wait until May 31…
We plan to try to finish that middle section and maybe even prep the last section in the Big garden.
