On Tuesday my new helper didn’t arrive until 6:30AM. After putting eye drops in Larry’s eyes and patting him a lot, I had gone to the barn and loaded the coolers into the car and gotten the Kubota and brought it to the house.
This was the job for the cool morning: getting the sods up before they were completely reattached. This side Tom had made 2 passes so it was about 32” wide.
I wanted to be done by 9:30 when my helper friend arrived. He had to wash the coolers while I got a shower. And after the humidity and heat, I was a muddy mess!
Larry was nowhere to be found. I expect all the people had upset him. I think he’s found a hidey hole behind the upstairs bathtub.
We headed down to the cellar and started the vegetable freezer first. Last year I had kept more old stuff as I didn’t have much of a garden. So we tossed most of that. There was a lot more room in the freezer and I hope to be able to move what was left in the running freezer at the barn to the house.
Then we tackled the meat freezer. It’s getting pretty empty these days. I didn’t defrost the freezers because I still hope to move them all to the freezer room some time soon.
By the time we got all this done and emptied all the containers to go to compost, I was exhausted. I was soon in bed, having closed the house up against the coming storms. We got another 1” of rain.
I tried to get some photos of Larry in the evening without using the flash but they are mostly blurry.
I had done his eyes in the evening. With a towel, he’s very good about it.
It had cooled of after the storms and the humidity had dropped a little. It looked like a good sleeping night was ahead.
On Wednesday I hope to get out to the Big garden and finish the weeding. The carrots need thinned. I’ve also got the mess in the kitchen to clean up from Tuesday. And if I’m not too wiped out, I should start the bills/budget as my mom will be here soon.
