Just rainy days…
On Wednesday morning I was up at 5AM and got my post up. I cleaned up the kitchen and puttered around getting ready. I had to water all the seedlings so I got that done.
At 8:45AM I called the company to make sure the window guy was coming. It was a different one this time.
So I started tearing the 2nd floor apart to get at the windows. Two minutes later the phone rings. He’s coming but will be 15-20 minutes late. Well, better than not at all. So I get the upstairs wrecked and 20 minutes later the phone rings. He’s not coming at all, all week. His car broke down. Sigh…
So I start washing the 2 smaller windows and got them done. I debated about doing the 2 big windows, or the 2 smaller ones in the laundry or the hall. But I didn’t have a lot of energy, so I stopped.

I went to sit for a while, and then made some lunch. The company called and said the guy I had 3 times before has agreed to come next week for 2 days, and to do the last day just after Memorial Day. So I’m pretty sure they will now get done, but only 6 weeks after I wanted to do them. By 12:30PM, I am again so tired I can’t stay awake so I go to bed and sleep 2 hours.
When I get up I went up and put everything back where it belonged as no windows until next week.
I made supper and was in bed by 9PM. I had to keep the stove going all day and the house was cold. So I asked my son to keep the stove going during the night and bring in wood for the masonry heater. I’m tired of being cold.
On Thursday morning I was up around 6AM. I checked the e-mail and worked on the checkbook. Then I got a load in the dishwasher and cleaned up the kitchen. Next I spent a long time making shopping orders online to be picked up in the afternoon. Then I got the masonry heater going to warm it up in the addition.
After a rest, I started collecting what I needed to do the last seed starting. I had to wash up 3 trays and 3 covers and managed to get that done with 1 rest.
I had to keep sitting down to rest but eventually I had everything except the bag of soil ready. There were only 3 trays this time.
What I started:
My #4 helper arrived at 12:30PM and I sent her off to pick up the orders I’d made. I sat down and got all the notes and seeds ready then I got busy filling the pots after my son brought up the soil bag.
I finished the seed starting just when my #4 helper got back. We got the food put away and I went to sit down and she started the cleanup of the kitchen from the soil dust.

Once she had finished that she ran the vacuum around the first floor and then it was time for her to go.
I made some supper and sat down to watch ‘Out of Africa’ and kept the masonry heater going.
The movie didn’t finish until after 9PM, so I didn’t get to bed until 9:30PM after pulling shades and tending fires.
It’s hard to believe I am burning stoves this late in May and starting on Sunday the temps are to skyrocket to 95F by Wednesday.
On Friday, if it stops raining, I have to feed or water the indoor seedlings and feed the ones in the cold frame. Once that’s done, my #3 helper will be here at 12:30PM and I’m hoping we can get pea fences up and start planting peas.
