Few hours away from the time this post was published, I was having a discussion with some family members and a conversation cropped up about women in leadership.
I made a comment about how mean some female soldiers can be at the point of duty (this was not to down play my female folks) I also added that if they were not like that, people would look down on them and take them for granted, so I supported the approach depending on the situation especially when citizens disobey simple national rules.
Surprisingly, one of the men made a comment that it is not necessary, that this is the reason why most women don’t deserve leadership because they won’t be submissive to their husbands.
At this point, I tried to understand the correlation and why that statement came up. I replied by explaining that being submissive has nothing to do with status at least not all the time and more or less women make the decisions to either be submissive or not, but it is based on individuals and should not be generalized.
However, this is my humble opinion about women leadership and women in leadership. Not all powerful women are headstrong at the home front. There are so many powerful women of which we have made role models like Ngozi Okonko-Iweala, Mitchelle Obama and so many others that still had leadership positions and were very good home players.
Secondly, a woman’s qualities should not be limited to just home front. A woman has dreams, she has aspirations and motives to contribute to the world at large and so should not be suppressed with the fictional ideas that powerful women can’t build a home.
In conclusion , for our world to blossom we need to embrace equity. Let everyone be encouraged to lead the path they have chosen to lead in their lifetime without bias or judgment. We all deserve to be seen irrespective of gender.
