So yeah ive got this garden in my backyard and honestly Its way better than i thought it would be. I never used to get why people bother with all the dirt and stuff. Like you can just go to the grocery store and grab whatever you need right. Thats what always thought anyway.
It all started cause had some old plastic pots sitting around collecting dust. I was bored one weekend so i just grabbed a shovel and dug up some dirt from the corner of the yard. Then i went to the market and bought a few packets of seeds tomatoes eggplants and maybe some others i cant even remember now.
Oh and theres a bottle gourd growing too no clue where that came from. Probably a seed that was already in the dirt or something. Now I make sure to check on everything most days. I get up when its still not too hot outside put on some old clothes and head out back.
I water the plants if the dirt feels dry pull out any weeds that pop up and just kind a look at how everythings doing. My hands get all muddy and my shoes are always covered in dirt but i dont really mind. Its kind nice to not be staring at my phone for a bit.
I will admit it i talk to the plants sometimes. I know that sounds silly but whatever. I will be like come on guys grow big and strong or youre looking good today. My neighbors see me sometimes and give me a weird look but i dont care.
If it helps them grow then its worth it. The best part by far is when things start to actually grow. First you see little green shoots coming up out of the dirt then leaves start to spread out and before you know it there are tiny little fruits hanging there.
When my first tomato turned red i was so excited i just bit into it right there in the garden. It was juicy and sweet and way better than anything you can buy at the store. My familys really into it too now.
Mom uses the eggplants in all sorts of things adobo sinigang even just sliced up and fried with a little salt. My little brother used to hate vegetables but now he will sneak out back and eat the small tomatoes right off the vine. He says they taste like candy.
Sometimes things dont go so great. Bugs will eat holes in the leaves or i will forget to water them for a few days and they will start to wilt. Once some plants even died completely. But thats okay you just clean it up and try again next time. Its not a big garden or anything fancy. But its mine and i like it a lot. Every time we eat something i grew myself i feel pretty good about it. Thats pretty much all there is to say.
