Let me tell you about my backyard its not fancy just a small patch behind my house but its full of life. Ive got more plants that i love the most and sums it up perfectly.
First up is the Shiny Bush. I call it that because its leaves are so smooth and glossy they look like they are polished. My neighbor gave it to me last year saying its a Pepper Elder. At first i just thought it was pretty—dark green leaves that stay perky even when its hot here.
But then i read online that some people use it for headaches i havent tried it yet but its nice to know it might help. It grows in a corner where the sun isnt too strong and i water it once a week.
Then theres the Miracle Leaf that thing is a survivor Ive had it for two years and its spread all over the place. Its real name is Goethe Plant but everyone calls it Miracle Leaf because little baby plants grow on its edges you just pluck them and stick them in soil and they grow right up.
Last month had a bad cold and my grandma told me to crush some of its leaves and drink the juice. It was bitter but it helped me breathe better. Now i make sure to keep a few extra pots of it you never know when you might need it.
The Spiral Flag is the tallest one. Its leaves twist around the stem like a corkscrew which is why i love it. Its a tropical plant so it thrives in the humidity here. I first saw it at a plant shop and thought thats weird i need it.
Now its about four feet tall and it adds a fun shape to the garden. My friend says its used in some medicines for diabetes but again i havent tried it just like looking at it.
My backyard isnt just a place to hang laundry or grow veggies. Its a little sanctuary where these three plants make me feel connected to nature roots. Every morning i go out to water them check for bugs and just breathe. The Shiny Bush Miracle Leaf and Spiral Flag arent just plantsthey are part of my daily life.
If youve got any plants in your yard that feel special i would love to hear about them. What do you grow and why do you like it?
