Hard to believe this much time has passed, and yet...
The notification popped a couple days ago, but only now I was able to drag my ass into acknowledging the moment.
Eight years is a lot of time (not as long as these hieroglyphs, tough crypto years do tend to feel longer), and I don't think there's any space online where I have been hanging for so long! Even if nowadays I'm spending less and less time on the blockchain. And this time around, I can't say it's a lack of time; true, a lot of stuff that I do need to focus on the "real" world nowadays - but the mood doesn't seem to be the same around here... or it could be just me.
And no, it's not a price thing. Markets have been bleeding out, and Hive is no different - but we're certainly lending a helping hand. I remember a while a go, a very regular hiveian writing something similar to we should have burned the DHF... and more and more I think about where would we be if there wasn't one!
Thousands and thousands leaving the platform on a regular basis, some (most?) to very questionable projects, and now even retroactive payments equivalent to a lottery ticket. Quoting another regular face around here, it feels like grabbing the silverware while the Titanic is sinking... and no doubts that is what looks to anyone outside (and not just there). Come to this point, and you wonder: why would anyone be buying Hive nowadays?
Thinking about our current inflation, and ending the quotes, I remember the words from a cousin who I'll be forever grateful, being him the first person to tell me about bitcoin. I was questioning him about some coin and some predictions about the ever falling price, and he told me something like this: ... it's one of the economy rules: supply tends to infinite, price tends to zero. Yes, one could argue that we all that a voice here, which is undoubtly true; but here as in the real world, some voices are way louder than others, and can do as they please, even when it comes to bleeding the blockchain dry. Will it change? I don't have an answer, and would like to believe it will, because I kind of grew fond of this place.
The random photos? All from the themes I like to post about, which I continue to enjoy although feeling a little less motivated to do so. And for the good part, it's always good to reflect on these eight years and all of the good things Hive brought me: real friends, after an awesome Hivefest; a wealth of knowledge about cryptocurrencies, markets, and a few other rabbitholes I dived into; sharpening of my photographic skills and an extra motivation to learn about my photography subjects; and so much more.
To top it up, it's also great to see some of the faces (or should I say names) that I've met online and offline sticking around and interacting on the blockchain, and playing the awesome game that seems to be our crown jewel, and that can keep me playing with joy even after all these years: way to go, Splinterlands!
So, maybe not as frequently... but see you around! Hive on! 🙂
