Holi is an Indian Hindu festival predominantly celebrated in India and Nepal but also in other parts of the world through migrated people in UK, US, west Indies, fiji, Mauritius etc...
It is also celebrated by non hindus as this is a fun festival.
The festival marks the beginning of spring, end of the winter and signifies the victory of good over the evil.
It lasts an evening and a day. The evening is today which is on full moon day which is called Chhoti holi ( small holi) and tomorrow is the festival of colours.
Today evening people burn pyres which symbolises burning of Holika, the devil called Holika Dahan.
Holika Dahan
For many traditions in Hinduism, Holi celebrates the killing of Holika by Vishnu in order to save Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu in the city of Multan, the current day Pakistan, and thus Holi gets its name.
Holi is really a fun festival, we used to have a such a good time. The actual fun part is tomorrow where people forget everything and have great fun.
Happy Holi everyone.
