Saliara is a small beach on the eastern coast of Thassos , about 5 km south of Makriamos beach . They call it Marble Beach and this name has not come by accident - because of white sand and white marble pebbles on the bottom, the water has a unique white-blue color and reminiscent of water on the shore of a tropical island. Even in the hottest weather the sand is cool because of the marble pieces in it. Marble has come from quarries over the beach.
Saliara was a hidden beach known to a few, but today it is no longer a secret, although it is still accessible via a dirt road. To get to it, first have to find the entrance to Makryammos Bungalows, located on Makriamos Beach. A rough dirt road starts at the entrance and you take it. The black road runs for about 5 km, drive slowly, because there are large holes in some places and the whole road is covered with white powder from the quarries (remember that this dust will cover the whole car). There is nowhere to go and after some creep you will see Saliara on top. You will forget about the off-road as soon as you see the water.
The whole beach is occupied by umbrellas and sun loungers and in July and August it gets crowded. If you continue on the road after Saliara, after 500 meters it will take you to another marble beach called Porto Vathy.
