It astounds me just how much money MoviePass lost last year after letting people sign up for their service where you can see a movie of your choice everyday in the theaters for just $10/month. I am further confused by AMC, one of America's largest theater chains, threatening to withdraw their contract with MoviePass if the company asks for a cheaper rate - being MoviePass is sending 100,000s of viewers to their theaters! And, mind you, MoviePass gets none of the food sales! If I were them, I'd say screw AMC and send all my customers to Regal.
This all seems like insanity to me. Shouldn't MoviePass be a win-win? Shouldn't theaters cut them a deal? What else could MoviePass do to actually start making revenue: maybe charge $10/mt to see a movie once a week and $50/mt to see them everyday. Because I feel like if we want to keep theaters from almost going extinct we need this company around.
And at rates this cheap, why hasn't everybody signed up for this service yet?
