Once again in my life, I am feeling helpless and powerless. My heart is broken and once again, I know I have nothing in my hands to do something about it. Aleppo is asking neither for money nor for food. They simply want the bombings to STOP.
For the last three days, I am not able to neither write anything nor think about writing about a specific topic. During past weekend, more than 200 airstrikes have hit the city of Aleppo in Syria and we are seeing a massive manslaughter, happening right in front of our eyes.
I have 754 facebook friends. ONLY ONE of them shared a video of Aleppo situation and another one used the hashtag “HolocaustAleppo”. Furthermore, in my facebook home feed, I see only news about Kardashians and the screwed up US presidential debate. The only one who is reporting the latest news about the Aleppo bombings is AlJazeera.
You know who else? The Syrians themselves! Go to twitter and you will see the horrible picture of children being pulled off DEAD from the ruins. The citizens of Aleppo are screaming for help and nobody is doing anything. There are more than 250 000 citizens trapped in that city. On the other hand, Assad government and Russians are bombing hospitals, too. I know what they are thinking: the high number of dead people is collateral damage! I would like so much to send a picture of my middle finger to Kremlin, but I am quite sure this will not solve the situation.
There have been a lot of meeting in UN, calling Russians to stop the airstrikes. NATO says Russians are breaking international laws. But, since when international law and all these peacekeeper watchdogs have been effective? International law has failed. United Nation has failed, including Nato. There is protocol to follow but let’s not forget the UN Security council use their vetos for self-interests and some of them use the “sovereignty” excuse not to help in a humanitarian crisis.
Rwanda Genocide
In 1994, there were peacekeepers in the country and they didn’t lift a finger to stop the killings of 1 million people of Tutsi minority from Hutus. They ignored this.
Congo’s Rape and child sex abuse
In the beginning of 2005, the peacekeepers were paying women and young girls for sex and most of the time, it ended up in raping. The same happened in Cambodia, Bosnia and Haiti.
Haiti’s Cholera
The source of this disease was Nepali peacekeepers of UN. More than 700 000 were infected after the horrible earthquake in Haiti and around 8 000 people died. You know what happened? UN used its diplomatic immunity to avoid a lawsuit.
Iraq Financial Scandal
Iraq could have food and medicine exchanged with their oil, through UN whose main job was to monitor the commodities exchange. In the end, there were a lot of UN officials that pocketed large sums of money through Iraq oil for food program. It’s the largest financial scandal in UN history.
Srebrenica
While the Dutch commander was having a drink with General Ratko Mladic more than 8 000 Bosnian Muslim men were killed by Serb forces in Srebrenica in 1995. It’s even worse than UN failure in Rwanda. Srebrenica was under the protection of Dutch forces who arrived on the mission of UN and to stop exactly what happened in reality.
Does United Nation had success in other missions? Yes, of course! But they have had more failures than successes! And once again, they are failing the Syrian people. Although the US is threatening Russia to close their diplomatic relations, we know perfectly they are BLUFFING.
That’s what happening right now. The hospitals are overwhelmed with the number of wounded people and there are fewer doctors than before.
On the other hand, Russians have a declared 48 hours of “humanitarian pause” and after this phase, they will start again bombing civilians. What about Europeans? What are they doing? Nothing. Aleppo is abandoned and the only thing left to do for them is crying and praying. CAN ANYBODY HEAR THEM?
What happened to humanity? Is that what we have become of? Indifferent? It’s worse than hate.
I am going to share the hashtag on my other social media profiles. What about you? It’s the least we could do!
Note: I couldn't upload the images. They are not for the faint-hearted.
