Freshest dried moringa part 1
Moringa has been labeled the “ new superfood of 2018 “by some media outlets .
We are lucky that here in the metropolis of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand it still grows in many small streets and locals still do pick it to put in a curry dish .
I have enclosed 1 picture of a very mature Moringa tree that grew in my street .
Unfortunately this tree has been cut down )
I used to go and get the seeds for planting and eating .
I didn’t eat the leaves or sell the powder from that tree because of the car and air
My own personal and the sold moringa came 3 hours north of Chiang Mai .
Note these are not moringa trees ,,,my battery was down by the time I harvested the moringa ,but it gives you an idea of the area and the freshness .
As you can see moringa can grow as tall as oak trees but also you can cut it back at around 2 meters and use it as a hedge or just if you are scared of the roots taking down your building hahha
Moringa is very fast growing and you can usually eat fresh leaves 4-8 weeks after planting the seeds .
As written before Thai people usually use it in a curry dish .
I have asked numerous Thais if they know about it or use it for anything else
Yes they do know about it ,but seldom take it as a medicine or as a nutrient supplement
The seeds and flowers are sold in the local market and if you look hard enough you can find the powdered version ,though I’m not sure how fresh it is .
You are more easily to find it in capsule form the most expensive form .
My Thai family grows it in the mountains an hour north of Chiang Mai
There are no chemicals used at any stage .
Unfortunately that tree has been cut down .
My own personal and the sold moringa came 3 hours north of Chiang Mai .
How to dry moringa
1:pick only the greenest of the leaves
2:Hang to dry as this let’s air circulate better( pic1) ,if you can’t hang you spread out on the floor but turn every few hours for a more even balanced drying (pic 2)
Pic 2
After 1 day ...the weight of the starting harvest and finished powder is 7kg picked wet produced around 1 kg dry and cleaned .
++++Shade dry not sun dry for maximum nutrient retention .+++
3:after 3-4 days you can test if dry by taking a sample in your hand and crushing it ,if it goes into a powder easily then it’s dry ,if not leave and test till so .if dry hand crush
4:hand strip as much stalk as you can ,this should be quite easy but there are numerous smaller stalks later .
They can be put in the stalk pile to be used as a food for the soil and plants ,,nothing goes to waste
Stalk beaded with water to be used on the soil ,see how green it is )
5: have 2-3 sieve ,start with the largest sieve ,hand crush sieve into a bowl below ,
Hand crush large sieve )
Separating any stalks
Sieve the fallen powder from the first bowl with a finer sieve into a bowl
Repeat the process till you have the finest powder
6:you can then tumtum with a pestle to make it even finer or you can use a coffee blender if you want capsule fineness .
Sorry no pic uploaded it was an actual video of greenest gold haha.
Capsule fineness...see how green it is , this was four days from picking to completion .a lucky customer had it in their house that day
The freshest dried moringa
7:put in a glass jar and keep in a dark place ,lid tightly closed ,so no air gets in to,maximize the nutrient content for longer periods of time .
8 total time from harvest to finished product ready to consume or sell 3-5 days depending on humidity .
Benefits of moringa .
My own personal benefits increased amounts of energy ,alertness ,clarity .
Deeper sleeps ,more quick to wake up and get on the move .
When I was exercising I could exercise longer and not feel fatigued as much as before I started taken moringa .
The websites will give you lots of information of course regarding nutrients and the amino acids and what exactly they do for your body .
