A big warm Hello from one homeschooler to another and all those out there who are curious about it in any way shape or form.
When my husband showed me this challenge we both knew it was perfect for us to share a bit about our family's experience and views on the topics covers! I hope that you all enjoy it and that this point of view is helpful in some way.
The topic I have selected to share is the 1st one ...
- Do you believe the way in which your child is being educated is preparing them for the future?
before we have kids I always loved the idea of parenting and schooling my kids but like most new parents when we had our son (1st Born) we tried putting him in school and giving the system a chance, Well this didn't last longer than 2 years for many reasons I will try and cover later in other posts but this started our homeschooling life.
To answer the question, I strongly believe that the way in which we school them now is truly preparing them for the future because of merely being able to teach them to think for themselves rather than being taught how to think. The system has a habit of teaching kids the answers they want them to give vs figuring things out and finding their own way to a similar answer if not a better one.
Another is expecting every one of one age to learn at the same pace or share the same strengths this we learned the hard way is just not possible because as individuals we all have different strengths and weaknesses and the way to work through those weaknesses is to focus on the strengths which in turn fortifies the confidence that becomes the driving force to overcome all the weaker aspects to anyone learning path! Heck, this works even as an adult and not only in kids! when we enjoy what we do we learn more and remember more and truly immerse ourselves in what we are doing naturally awakening the curiosity in us to dare what we feared before.
I have watched my kids go from timid troubled kids, who got left out and losing their spark to confident, daring, and creative beings with a voice and ideas. this alone has made me love every moment of homeschooling even the more challenging parts of taking on homeschooling 3 kids have been more than rewarding, to say the least. but the most rewarding of this is being apart of this journey and watching as they develop and knowing you had more than a hand in all of that.
Lastly which is a given! is space and freedom to teach them Life skills daily and what could be more important than that. we have had the blessing of sharing this with them in many creative and fun ways that will leave fond memories in place for the rest of time!
Take care all and keep the community strong! I am very proud and happy to have found this group of people and look forward to reading more from you all and sharing.
