Moche Art
The Moche wove complex-patterned textiles from the wool of vicuñas and alpacas. In the textile shown, we can see the Moche used mainly earth tones with the addition of green.

From the video, we learned the importance of balance and opposition, duality, in ancient Peruvian art. We see two figures. Assuming the yellow strap around the chin of one of the figures is a beard, both a male and female form are represented and seem to be mirrors of each other, perhaps also representing life and death, earth and sky, spring and winter, concepts that would have been important to an agricultural civilization. The dualistic forces stand opposite of each other, but must do so in balance in order to maintain the world.
