Saturday morning was foggy and a bit warmer. When I pulled the shades up I saw the birds had all but abandoned the thistle feeder. Just a few goldfinches early on, then nothing when I looked during the day.
I got the bills/budget done just as my brother came down. He went and got the truck and I got dressed and went out to the trash shed.
There’s great puddles in front of all the doors and I even had to lay down a board bridge in front of the garden shed. So I wasn’t going to be sorting recycling any time soon, not with those 2’ high snowbanks to be melted.
So I dragged out the trash bags and he loaded them onto one of my sleds and dragged them around to the truck in the driveway.
The truck hadn’t wanted to start so he’d left it running. When we got in the smell of exhaust was bad. Something with the muffler must have gotten knocked loose when it got stuck on the bed of snow earlier this year.
We got the dump run done (only 5 minutes each way) but I wasn’t feeling so good when we got back. I hadn’t had my cup of tea yet and thought that might be it. So I made one but it didn’t really help. I sat for a while then had to get up to tend stoves and decided to try to fix my clock.
I spent a better part of a couple hours on it. I had ordered one with too short a stem for the hands, but the 2 mechanisms were nearly identical and I was able to swap out parts and get it running. Keeping track of all those gears sure wore me out.
I tended the stoves again and made some lunch.
The lamp shade had set up well, so I finally put it back on the lamp. Then I got out ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban’ and watched that until I fell asleep. I was awakened by my #2 and #3 interns mid afternoon. My #1 intern was under the weather and they had brought her supplies, etc and come to cheer her up.
I watched the rest of the movie then went in and started on my post. I got the photos edited and had to go lay down again after tending fires.
Around 6PM, I got shades drawn, fires going, made supper and settled down to watch ‘Little Women’ circa 1994. Tom appeared around 8PM and we talked for a little while then he went up to see his daughter who was doing a bit better.
I finished the movie, tended fires and finally got my post up. I got to bed about 9:30PM.
On Sunday they are saying a little sun (YAY!) and warmer into the 50’sF. I’ve got the kitchen to clean up, seedlings to thin, and if it does warm and there is sun, I might go clear some of the mess off the uncovered gardens. I can’t do much weeding as I’m sure the soil is still frozen. I should also get laundry started so I’ll have something to wear to exercise class on Monday. My brother said he’s going to look at the truck and see if he can see where the exhaust leak is.
