On Sunday I was up at 4:45AM and worked on my posts for a while. Then I had to get a shower and get ready to go to the flea market at 8:30AM with my #2 intern. It was a tiny one, not what I had expected, and I only found a few things. The green frog will go on the tile backsplash over the copper sink.
When we got back, I got changed and my #2 intern and I went to the barn in her truck and brought back the lawn chairs. I’ve missed having them to sit in to do notes or rest.
Once that was done, my #1 intern and I selected hats from my stash in the cedar closet and got ready to create a “festive” hat for the birthday party. The first thing we did was wander the yard looking at flowers to select.
Then I got my ribbons out and she pulled the paper flowers from the arrangement on the dining room table. I made a bow and streamers and she hot glued tiny flowers from the ribbons.
I made a band to insert the flowers in, but it wasn’t strong enough, so I ended up sewing them on.
I’d forgotten to wrap the present or make a card so I rushed around to do that when I’d finished the hat. Next was to get dressed. I don’t have any fancy dresses that fit, so it was jeans and a jersey. My #1 intern wore a lovely sundress. And off we went.
The first thing you see when you enter the birthday venue is my friend’s goddaughter’s house plants. They were all so lovely, as was her house and garden.
It was to be a tea party sort of birthday party for my friend’s 80th. Both her goddaughters had planned it and they had done such a great job! The teacups were take home, you selected the one you liked, had your tea in it, and took it home. I selected the one on the lower left of the set on the right side. My #1 intern selected one with a saucer.
My friend and I with birthday cake
There were about 30 people and the goddaughters were so happy it was a lovely day. It would have been a bit crowded in the house. It was a lovely time, with all her friends and neighbors.
We discussed whether we each felt like we could pick blueberries this year. We decided if we kept the amount small and asked for accommodations, we could manage it. So we need to get signed up.
She had wanted a German chocolate cake and they’d had a splendid one made.
#1 intern taking a quiet break
We stayed a couple hours and then headed home. I worked on the posts for a while then sat down to watch ‘Leave It to Beaver’. Tom and my #3 intern arrived and we visited for a while.
When they left, I got the cold frame closed up and at 8PM I pulled the shades it was still really warm in the house so I asked my son to light fires later in the night.
I didn’t get to bed until after 9PM.
On Monday, I have to prep for doing the windows that have to be done from a ladder. And in the afternoon I have an event at the Senior Center. So a long busy day…
