On Monday morning I was up around 5AM and got my post up. I cleaned up the kitchen and got ready for the Fuel Assistance guy. He was coming to evaluate the house for heat pumps.
I am eligible for free evaluation and installation of a whole house system through Fuel Assistance and a program our local electric company is running.
They determined that because of the way the house is built, they can put one wall mounted unit near the roundtop window in the living room to heat that and the dining room.
Another would be on the wall with the family photos behind the island in the kitchen. That one would get a pine wood chase to the floor as no wall is open for it.
A third wall unit would go over my computer desk where the Three Little Girls picture is.
This is where they would locate the outside units for the first floor.
On the second floor they can hang the air compressor from the roof joists as it’s too heavy for the floor in the attic at this time. That would all be one system controlled by one thermostat but would be in the 3 bedrooms.
But there are a lot of hoops to get through before it happens. First an electrician has to come out and make sure the 3 electrical panels can handle the new loads and that there’s room in them for the new breakers.
Next Fuel Assistance has to submit a proposal to the electric company and they have to ok it. And once the proposal is sent to the installers, they have to schedule it and then do the work. They are currently a month out starting new work.
So it probably won’t be done, if it is approved, until autumn. So maybe… But Fuel Assistance is giving us 2 new ACs to get through the summer.
When they had left late morning, I sat down for a while then made lunch and tended the seedlings. A lot of the ones that had come up needed to be thinned and I took 2 more trays out to the cold frame. Then I got them all watered.
I was exhausted by then and went to bed and slept 2½ hours.
My son got this photo when I had gotten up in late afternoon. I made some supper and got ready for the last farm transition Zoom meeting. Tom came out to make sure it would work and ended up spending half an hour trying before it finally went through.
The meeting went until nearly 9PM as it was the last one. I was in bed shortly after having pulled all the shades.
On Tuesday I’ve got the kitchen to clean up and when my helper arrives mid morning, we are going to finish laying out the garden and determine where the 2nd set of pea fences will be.
We should move the mulch for those if there’s room and set them up first and plant them. So we will see how far we get. That ought to finish me off.
