Office geranium opening
On Monday morning it was snowing when I got up and had been since 9:30PM the night before. I got my post up and didn’t have to get ready for anything, as everything was closed due to the blizzard.
It wasn’t too bad here, lots of wind blown snow, but we only got around 8”, I think. The barn disappeared for a while. I talked to my oldest brother in CT and he had 18” at 11AM and it was still coming down. His friends in Providence, RI had 32” and still coming down.
The snow stopped here around 1PM but the winds continued. Lots of snow blown into the woodshed. Fortunately it faces south, so it will melt and dry out soon.
I was sat down at the dining room table working up seed starting sheets all morning. The poor birds were struggling to stay on the feeders in the wind. There had to be at least 4 dozen birds out there.
I finished the starting sheets around noon. I had discovered that I had nowhere near enough window space for the April 1 starting. The 2 startings in April are always large. But for the past few years, I’ve been able to send seedlings to the cold frame. I doubt I will be able to this year until the end of April. So I needed more shelf space.
I have 2 of these big windows on either side of the roundtop window. They will be pressed into service. If my husband was here, he’d have a fit, my putting seedlings into those windows. Bad enough they are in the roundtop in the living room!
I spoke with the contractor and asked if he could get them up before the April1 starting. He thought he could. I think he will have to trim the windows before installing the standards.
So I spent all too much time searching for standards in black and matching brackets to hold the shelving. I found the wire shelves at Home Depot and they would deliver for free by the end of the day.

Once that was done, I went out late afternoon and got the steps cleaned off and the walkway and the car. It was about then it dawned on me that my brother wouldn’t be home to plow until late and the delivery person would not be able to make it up the driveway.
So I called and changed the delivery to Tuesday.

When my brother came in from plowing he said the delivery guy had come all the way to the barn, just as my brother finished plowing. (GPS sends people to the barn often.) My brother directed him to the house and then brought the shelves to the cellar when he came inside. So that’s one component here.

Once I was back inside, having fed the birds, I got the shades pulled and the fires going and made supper. I was in bed by 9PM, exhausted and very achey.
On Tuesday my brother and I get my car down to be inspected at 8AM. I’m not sure how I will get it home again. My helper friend arrives at 10:30AM and he has errands and chores to do, and house plants to water.
I have to go through the file of seed starting notes and make sure all the sheets I need are in there and take out the ones I don’t need and file them. I also have laundry to put away and the kitchen to clean up.
So another busy day. At least it’s supposed to be sunny, so not much stove tending.
