On Tuesday morning I was up before 6AM and got my post written. As I had fed the cat, I was supervised vs tormented. I got the shades up and didn’t have to light a fire; it was so warm in the house. I got a shower and the wood guy’s helper arrived at 8AM.
We went to the woodshed and measured up how long the tobacco poles had to be and went to the barn and cut a bunch.
Then we laid out where the holes for the posts would be along the garden shed wall and figured out how many center ones we could do. There would be 9 initial holes, a couple more to be done once the left side of the shed was filled.
But to did the holes we needed the post hole diggers and we forgotten to get them when at the barn. So I took the truck back to the barn and he followed in my car.
When I opened the back of the car, I realized the fence tools were still there along with 3 bags of sand. Sigh… So I put the fence tools away and got the post hole diggers and headed back to the shed.
By the time I got there, I’d decided to get the sand out of the car. But that meant cleaning out the alcove. So we moved the snow blower, emptied the 2 buckets of bad drywall mud, moved stuff around and got the sand buckets set up. He carried in the 3 bags and we put the snow blower back. At least we can walk in the alcove again… Someday the snow blower will make it back to the barn…
Next we chalked the layout for the posts on the garden shed wall and he started digging. He needed the tamper which we’d initially left at the barn, so I headed back up for that. As I was leaving the barn, a huge strike of lightning flashed across in front of me! We certainly weren’t expecting that!
Back at the woodshed we quickly got everything picked and under cover. He started digging holes and I went inside to unplug important things and to sit down for a while.
I’d been outside in a T shirt all morning and it felt hot in the house. We have no screens yet but I’ve been trying to get a worker set up to do windows in a couple weeks.
It rained for a little while until my helper friend arrived at 10:30AM. I had him do a few chores and then some shopping.
While he was gone, I got ready to do soil testing.
When he got back, we decided to do just the Big garden and the New Herb garden as the Small garden still had tarps on. I’d do that later if I got the tarps off soon, and if not I’d just use the old test results this year. So he went out and dug 15 small holes in both gardens.
So the box was soon ready for the post office and so he took it down. While he was gone, I got ready for my next to last PT session. The van arrived before he got back. But as soon as I had signed off on his app, I headed to PT. I was really tired but for once, I was not hurting somewhere.
Mesclun #2 up from Sunday’s starting
The contractor was already at the house and was working on the back storm door handle. He ended up drilling right through the handle and putting a bolt through. With that and the set screw, it seemed to fix the sticking latch problem. We’ll see…
Once we’d finished that, we went to the barn to see if I had any cedar fencing left to make into stakes for the garden. I had part of one section. I will have to get a couple more sections to store for the future.
Back at the house, we went to the workshop to cut the shelving to size. I painted the ends and then got them installed on the top brackets and the lights adjusted.
While I was doing that, he was starting work on the front porch ceiling where the crack had opened up in a corner. He ran out of time so he will come back to that next time.
I made some supper when he left and sat down to watch more of ‘The Darling Buds of May’ for the evening. It was so warm, in the 60’sF, that I didn’t have to pull shades or do fires. I was in bed at 8:30PM.
On Wednesday I hope to get out in the gardens if the rain holds off. I think I’m going to tackle the East Shed garden because it’s the one I see the most. It’s to be in the 60’s all day and no rain, I hope until the evening. So no exercise class…
